    Cool Written Off!

I had word from my insurance company today that my CBR has been written off and the claim approved. Apparently the cost of repairs exceeds 75% of the market value of which I have it insured for. My house & contents claim for a wrecked helmet and Teknic jacket has also been approved!

Over the last couple of weeks I have had time to reflect and seriously consider my options and so I have decided to stay off bikes for a while :disapint:. This is just part of my normal cycle where over the past 18 years circumstances have led me to 'sacrifice' my absolute enjoyment of motorcycling for more important life affairs.

I must say that the past 8 months riding has definately been a major highlight for me, especially meeting & riding with so many of you KBr's and managing to do 4 track days at Pukekohe for the first time in my life - what a buzz!

Take care out there everyone, and most of all enjoy the ride! :spudwave:

    Um, nice one?

    Hey Zed

I have to admit, I would feel better writing off a bike, and getting a brand new one, as apposed to having one fixed (But I don't mind, I know Sawyers will do a spiffy job, and have it better than new ).

Also, while I was waiting to hear about mine, I was thinking that if it was written off, I would also have reconsidered what to get to replace it...

I hope you do take a short brake, and get back into it soon, as you know it's a whole heapa fun.

    Take care,
    Dave.

    Bugger. Sorry to hear Zed.

Hope to hear you sort everything out and come back to the fold soon.

    Blessed be buddy.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

So when do you reckon you will be back on ya' (new) bike?

For some reason it always makes me sad when a rider packs it in...

So I guess your crash knobs were a waste of money, huh?
Do you have a list of what was needing repair? Maybe if it had a bent frame could understand, but if straight frame, you should enquire about buying it back from insurer and repair it as a track only bike

Its no harm to take a break and focus on other things in your life. I'm building a new house soon and have to face the reality that the bike will probably have to go for the time being. But thats cool because I know that in time I'll get another bike, I've got heaps of other things in my life that are equally as fulfilling (windsurfing for instance is something I'm more into than bikes) and the new house on 1/2 an acre will be bloody choice for the family. I'm sure with the good weather on its way you'll be back on two wheels before too long.

You wouldn't go away when you clashed with everyone on your religious standing, but are quite happy to bugger off because you had a bit of a prang on your new bike - an unwavering conviction to your priciples eh?

I suppose under the circumstances of the bin yes. The left side slider got ripped off in the accident gav but I think it saved the rear-set from getting munted.

Forks bent, radiator stoved in, front disks & wheel stuffed, head & side fairings and rear cowl fairing stuffed, basically anything protruding from LH side of bike (except rear-set) damaged. Have decided against bidding to buy it back as the money is going to be spent elsewhere.

When I first read your post I felt a little sorry that you had written off your bike. After all each one of us can sympathise with your loss. There but for the grace of God go I, and other such sentiments.

But as I continued to read I came across the above quote, and my empathy turned incomprehension. Seriously Zed who are you kidding. There is no sacrifice for the more important affairs of life . These are done willingly. That's why we make changes to our lives because of the importance of them. As a professed Christian I would have thought that you would have known that. But no. You turn an accident into something where you expect us to believe that you are making some kind of sacrifice for more important matters. I use to think you are a fraud but in that I was wrong. I now know that you suffer from a more serious malaise and hope that you have the grace to recognise it.

I wish you well for the future and hope that you can get better.

You've taken my post in completely the wrong way man! Reminds me of when I speak to my wife sometimes and she completely misunderstands my intended meaning. Are you sure you're male Skyrider?

Zed, Nothing wrong with giving it away for a wee while or for a long while if that's what you honestly prefer.

I'm happy to hear that you've weighed up the options and decided to take a break for now. We all have different priorities and responsibilities, and it sounds like you've given the event due consideration.

Maybe one day you'll be sitting in a cage on the motorway, a bike will come splitting past you and you'll decide that you want back into the game.

I hope that you don't give up KB though, I haven't agreed with everything, or probably most of the things you've had to say here, but your heart is in the right place.

Promise me though, that a while won't be forever, we can't let the biker gods claim another rider!
