    Wheelieing the FXR150

    Wotcher, all (my first post...)

Was wondering how much success the other FXR drivers around here have had at the above.

So far, the best I've done is lofting it a foot or so on takeoff for a couple of seconds from a *very* slow roll by revving to ~10k and dumping the clutch sharpish (but then, I've just started trying...)

I get the feeling that it'd come up more if I shifted my (not inconsiderable) weight further back and gave it a heave on the bars, so I'll just keep trying in the meantime.

    So, am I:

    (a) an idiot for even bothering, and I should buy a proper bike; or
    (b) a complete pansy who should've had it vertical ages ago?

Just do stoppies mate must easier.
You find that you'll only be able to make it for a few seconds, try using the pillion pegs and going back there. Might work, I would try it but I'd rather not

Seriously, are you pulling my leg? The stock rubber on my bike is pretty shite, I can't see it doing anything except sliding the front wheel all over the place. But then I haven't really tried...

If I do manage to get the front up properly, I'll try to get a photo and post it here, just to prove a point (not sure what, but wheelieing an FXR's gotta prove *something*)

It does - too much time riding in a straight line

Yeah man, it's an effort unlike those 'other' riders *eyeballs R1 owners*

Just give it some weight on the front dude and you'll be sweet, they grip better then they look. You ever get on MSN eh? My mate (wrote his off got some good stop on his rather bald frontage, dunno how it got like that)

So you'll be wanting a GMKD picture as well, then?

It would be interesting to see a pic tho.......have seen someone do it on a Street Magic - but they just man-handled it.  Funniest pics I see are the scooter wheelies in the bike mags!

have seen multiple couriers do stoppies (BIG ONES!)on street magics... if you get your tyres warm enough and they're not crusty you should be able to get it going.

as for wheelies... if you've got the front a ft off teh ground, do it again with a near empty tank and a heavy backpack on (or strap it to the pillion seat to get some of the weight off the front wheel... or just get someone stupid to ride pillion while you practice!!!

better advice is to do a search for wheelies and wheelstands on the site. there has been some v good advice in some links.

you don't need piss all grip for stoppies-its just weight transfer,
I can stoppy my MX bike on dirt or even my old crusty A100 on perished road tyres on the grass.
Also a pointer from the A100- If you can stand on your pillion pegs and ride,it'll wheelstand scary fast.
    Luv it!

...so front wheel lockups on sports bikes are a product simply of over zealous braking?? I'd disagree...my tyres definitely need a bit of warming up before they'll hold on and start trying to lift the rear.

i'd also wager your MX and A100 are a fair bit taller over the front wheel than a zx-6 thats been designed with heavy braking and stoppie-prevention in mind.

Bummer about the chain though. thats pretty dissappointing
