Porirua - Wairarapa Adventure Ride Friday 19 October 2007

My Bro' is staying for an extended weekend, I've taken a couple of days off work and besides going to Col's awezome lunch today we thought we would cruise over to the Wairarapa tomorrow.

The plan is I will ride my XR250L while he rides Mrs merv's DR650SE while she is at work (poor thing) and I'm thinking we'll take in a bit of gravel and go to Pahaoa via Martinborough re-living this ride a bit http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=33831 going the back way over gravel on the return to Gladstone pub.

Re-cycled is going to come with us on his V-Strom or maybe his DR650SE.

Who is free and wants to come with us? Departure time would be no earlier than 10am from my house in Porirua and therefore something just before 10.30am we would pass Rimutex. If the weather hasn't cleared by then we might leave later and possibly shorten the trip.

Respond on here or PM me before say 9.30am on Friday if you are interested and we can arrange to meet or we will start without you.

Remember I'll only be on my 250 so this won't be a grand prix race.

We're sort of prepped, dropped in to see Richard at TSS this morning when it was pissing with rain and bought a few oil filters so have done an oil change on both these bikes this arvo in readiness. Geez when's the weather going to improve?
    Cheers

    Hi Merv

If I can juggle things I would be keen. I would be riding my sons dt230 as my wr is still not quite back together after I drowned it this week.

I will post here before 9.am Friday to confirm one way or the other. I am in Kapiti so I suppose I would travel down to meet you at Porirua at 10?

    my cell is 0274499115

    cheers

Yeah let's see what the weather is like in the morning. Frodo is keen too so maybe 4 or 5 of us might go then. I'll check for your message in the morning and then we can organise meeting.
    Cheers

I'm a definite starter (in fact I'm frothing at the mouth in anticipation - look at the stunning weather - plus I'm looking forward to actually riding my sons bike for once and not just fixing it all the time).

I presume you guys will be going over Haywards?

If so I could meet you at the coffee shop by the Challenge service station at Pahiatanui Inlet at 10ish? (I might go over Peakak Hill just to get used to the bike).

I'm flexible so let me know what works for you.

    cheers

Thanks for organising the ride, Merv. Merv took lots of photos and will, no doubt, post some soon, but here are some to get started.
The third photos is our lunch break at Pahaoa. The fifth one is along the Admirals Road area. And the final one is of Brian just before we descended into the Wairarapa plains.

Yep I posted them over on this ride report thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=59259

Thanks for your photos Frodo and thanks again for your company.

I especially like your fourth photo http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/at...0&d=1192827304 that one really shows the road beside the gorge.
    Cheers

Brilliant photos, especially the ones with that Aprilia in them, phwoaar.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Hey its not about "letting" you tag along it was good to have the company - and that's the spirit of KB we are all stuck with this motorbike thing here like a disease we can't shake.

Your mud bog threads have probably given others inspiration. As I said on the ride I haven't bothered doing a hard out trail ride since Te Ure 2002 and though I trailered the bike to it and at least didn't have to clean the bike up to ride home, arriving home at around 10pm on a Sunday with a totally mud covered bike with no time to clean it left me feeling like "well I've done enough of this" so have kept life easy doing adventure rides since and being able to park the bikes up without worrying about the lasting damage being done to them totally caked in mud. Geez I'm showing my age and the been there done that attitude huh!
    Cheers

You in Wellington at the moment? - I see your profile says Blenheim soon. Because this won't be the last ride we do.

Cheers - we were trying to remember exactly when you are due back, but sure we continue to have fun while you're enjoying yourself abroad. You remember how we enjoyed that ride last year so I thought it was about time we went down to Pahaoa again and the crew still give it the thumbs up.
    Cheers
