    What to do? (re: ZXR)

    Hey...

As some of you know my bike was stolen a few months back and the thief wrote it off... I have since got the bike back from the ins. co. and am now debating what to do with it.

I've been advised that the engine is fucked, or at least the lower half of it (crankcase... clutch and gearbox - although I doubt its that bad, but am having it checked out further by someone who doesn't want to buy it so they won't give me a speel of crap to get the price down)

The bike (excluding the engine) is fine, no bent forks, no frame damage... just all cosmetics and possibly a damaged radiator.

With that in mind all I'd need to get the bike going again is either the lower part of the engine or a whole new engine...

I know it'll take me a few months to fix it up but that will take less time then it will for me to save for a 600... so I'm not loosing by taking that time to do it...

Just looking for any advice or suggestions....
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

Ypu the Ins. Co. did pay me out... but not the full amount (had to despute it)... and since then I've had a death in the family and so had to spend some of the money etc...

DMNTD: Yeah I'm leaning towards that, can't afford the 600 I want and not realy keen on settling for a crap one in the meantime... might as well do up the ZXR...

I've had two people check the bike out now... one reckons the whole engine needs to be replaced, the other reckons only certain parts need to be replaced... so I'm trying to pull some favours and get someone in the know who isn't out to bring the price down to give me a real damage report... in the meantime I've withdrawn the auction off TurdMe and I'm checking out engine and part prices...

I really wanna street fighter it up... but that'll cost more (cause I'm a girl and it has to look good) than just fixing it up standard... anyway...

I'd get a s/hand motor of tardme etc and whack it in.
If the crank is bent then its cheaper to remove the motor and replace it whole.
    Streetfighter it if you want?

Depends on what your trying to achieve PF. You've spent a lot of time getting it back on the road in the past without getting a lot of riding (this is what I'm asuming from your posts, so if I'm wrong, ignore the whole bit).
IMHO you would be better off cutting your loses, sell the bike and get one that goes so you are at least on two wheels. Lifes too short to spend it doing stuff you don't want to.
Conversely, if you enjoy fiddling with it and fixing it then go for the rebuilding project.
I appreciate that money is always an issue but I would think that money spent on another bike might be a better bet than spending more on the ZXR.

Good luck with whatever you chose.

Yeah I once the bike was fixed last year I rode it pretty much everyday, did a trackday and all that carry on too...

I do enjoy fiddling with bikes and learning as much as possible... my biggest issue with fixing it is that I don't have all the tools I need and I buy them as I go along (If I can)... So I really don't mind fixing it up...

I only started about fixing it up last night after a possible buyer had checked the bike out and pretty much I'm very excited about fixing it up, I know it'll take a while and a lot of work and of course it'll cost me... but if I spend say 2 months fixing it, spend approx $2500 getting it back on the road... then at least I can flick it on if I want to for at least $4K... thats an extra $1500 profit in 2 months... which is more than I can save in 2 months anyway... (I may just be justifying (sp) it... but yeah)

Seeing as you've voted fighter then you've already decided. Do what you can afford.

I'm voting what you voted, for two reasons...
    1. you voted for that
    2. it may be a reasonably cost effective way of finding bikerchick happiness again.

    Safe riding.

I reckon do the absolute minimum to get it up and running (warrantable) and ride it to death while you're saving for the bike you really want
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be quoted out of context, then used against you.

The downside of fightering it is that it will be more difficult to sell, with the amount of ZXR250 / CBR250s on the market, and you won't get as much for it. I reckon you should cut your losses and sell it as is - hell, you'll be off two wheels while you're fixing it anyway - save like mad a couple of months, then get yourself a tidy bigger bike in time for summer.

    i would think about.....

getting it up to wof standard - how much you would need to spend on it and how much you would get back from selling it at that standard

    or

selling it as is or as parts how much you would get for it

and run with the better option and start saving for a new bike its a hard thing to do but its what i had to look at recently... focus on the good part.. a new toy!

    good luck buddy

street fighter it (as cheaply as possable) and sell the spare parts, when youve got enought money for new bike, sell it as parts, $1 reserve every big part on tm and you'll make a bit of dosh.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Yeah I'm not looking at getting my money back on the ZXR in the future... thats damn near impossible seeing as in the last 2 years I've spent over $8000 on it...

And chances are when I'm done with it Sam will take it over and ride it and yadda yadda...

*brought an engine today* wheeheee how exciting!
