Rego on older bikes (or cars)

Is there any rule whereby rego gets cheaper as vehicles get older? I think there might have been a thread on this before but can't find it.

So the normal rego's are now backdated from when they expired. I guess the rules haven't changed for the "classic" vehicle rego's then. It starts the day you pay?
