    Insurance - Your opinions please

I'm sure this is something which gets recycled in the forums periodically but the latest thread relating to bike insurance i could find was from 2004:
    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=2159

What im asking for is your opinions on which companies are good to deal with for bike insurance, not necessarily the cheapest, but obviously that's a strong point to consider.

    Some info on me:
I'm looking to insure a 1994 Honda VFR750F approx value of $7000. I'm 27, the only rider, with a shiny clean record.

The Quotes I've received so far:

    Golightly Insurance Services (David Golightly)
    Full: $374
Third Party, Fire & Theft: $170
    Excess: $250

    John Baker Insurance
    Full: $535
Third Party, Fire & Theft: $300
Excess: $500, unless stolen from my home when un-garaged in which case its $2000

    Swann Insurance
    Full: $428
Third Party, Fire & Theft: $353
    Excess: $250

    Protecta
    Full: $627
Third Party, Fire & Theft: $More than full cover...
    Excess: $1400

    AMI / AA / State
Not worth my time to write here.

There is a more recent thread
    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ight=insurance

I hope that links correctly. There are other threads as well.

    Never heard of Golightly.

Our insurances are done with Swann through www.kiwibike.co.nz who got us much better premiums than if we'd gone to Swann directly. Includes roadside assistance but some of the others probably will too.

John Baker seem to be very popular so must have a good rep.

Perhaps try Vero as well, they gave me a quote that was a bit more than Swann (Kiwibike) but also covered all clothing etc.

www.ebikeinsurance.co.nz was cheaper than Swann for us, but I went back to Swann through Kiwibike since Kiwibike are fantastic to deal with.

    Good luck

The companies mentioned here are good, but go back to John Baker and just check with Tim, (Jetboy), personally or PM him. Ask for him and he may be able to do better for you.

Kiwibike and Classic are very good, but you're too young for Classic.

eBike are in Aus, but my boss and his son use them and reckon they're allright. Cheap premiums, for sure!

Cheers for the responses guys (dont know how i missed that other insurance thread mazz...).

By chance i ended up talking to Tim from J.B. when i called them and he was really helpful + went the extra mile to provide the sharpest price he could for me, so totally agree that he's worth asking for specifically.

i'm biased, but for a good reason, Dave at Kiwibike.co.nz has 4 of my bikes insured for a great price, but his service and after care service cannot be beaten. 0800 629 253...
i warn you, he's a bike nut and you might have a 20min conversation about bikes as well as an insurance quote

We've had our bikes (and everything else) insured with John Baker Insurance for years. Gassit Girl was taken out on her K1 SV650S in 2002, and was pretty badly hurt. The assessing of damage etc for the bike all went smoothly in the background, just as well on account of the fact I was VERY busy at work and visiting Annie in hospital etc. We got the bike back (good as new), and about a week later the excess cheque arrived in the mail. The case against the other driver hadn't even gone to court at that stage. I rang Keith at JBI and jokingly asked him what he thought he was playing at....it's not supposed to be so hassle free.
So, the long and the short of it: I find the premiums reasonable, and when the chips are down, John Baker Insurance performs

    I'll second that.
