Is there a reason for Red Arm Bands... I have to admit that my very first thought was of Nazi Arm bands (being red and all). Now this could be completely due to the fact that Ive been watching too much history channel, but...

If this my first thought Id hate to think the "cynical public" do to (be it subconciously or not) and this hinders support...

Red arm bands.... everyone go and get some red electrical insulation tape. E.g BYO makes logistic much easier.

We will make up some later on and sell them for donation to drive the campaign.

'fraid it won't. No Right Turn into Nicholls Lane.

This should work, and isn't generally used heavily either (always seems to be quiet unless the middle of rush hour). Wellesly off ramp is the middle off ramp of 3 on one exit. Get off at Wellesly, turn right, left onto Stanley, and follow it round onto Lower Domain Rd. Potential busy as hell bit would be going across Stanley Street, as that off ramp is used a bit, and some vehicles do go into the domain.

Anyway, right now it's looking like the following:

Meet at Ramarama exit on the west side of the motorway (left turn when coming southbound) on Ararimu road. Everyone will park on the side of the road until we leave.

Route will be SH1 north to Auckland domain. But just looking at the best way to get from the motorway to the domain.

I am thinking turnoff Symonds St exit then onto N Western Motorway exit. Turn right at Nicholls Ln, then do a U turn back onto Stanly St, then left at Lower Domain Dr up to the domain.

Just need confirmation than this route works and is best as I'm in Christchurch so unable to check it myself.

It would be a whole lot easier to take the Port exit off the motorway (down the hill) into Stanley Street, turn right at the lights into and up Parnell Rise.

The next set of lights is St. Stephens Ave and Ayr Street which are generally green (at the same time, we drive straight ahead,) and turn right into Domain Drive arriving at The Musesum carpark as one.

Much to dangerous to go throwing a U-turn at Stanley street into Lower Domain Drive, besides there is a major Weigh Station at the Intersection of Stanley St, Beach Rd and Parnell Rise. - translate Police watching you as you ride past.

We would get maximum exposure riding up Parnell Rise, there is not too much traffic disruption (to us, or public) but there will be a lot of people around as it is a reasonable shopping/cafe area which we would ride through and be seen.
Only two turn-offs, and 3 sets of lights which just about everybody would get through (without breaking any laws or being cause for concern)

The Khyber Pass option (in my opinion) is to short (for public exposure) not to mention the 3 sets of lights in very close proxcimity to each other. They are not timed to each other either. Risk - cars amongst bikes etc

    my $0.50c (inflation)
    It is what it is

    Guys,

We really need to think of the route that is going to give us maximum exposure..No media is going to turn up and film / write about a protest that rode down some back streets and met in a park..... We need some local Auckland people to get together and nut it out.... We cannot afford to balls this up.

This seems to be the consensus in the posts / threads Ive read.

My .01c worth. (found it on the driveway)

We should either do Queen St, or Customs St or something similar, needs to be shite loads of people see us.

Queen St would prob result in blue problems, but off the motorway at Nelson St, along Customs, onto Beach, Stanely, Grafton then Park Rd (past the Hospital), into the top entrance to the Domain.

Heeps of people will see, not much disruption (as long as no ambulences)

...Edit.... perhaps the first part up till Stanely, then follow Patch's route up through Parnell

This is the TEC for the Auckland ride.

I will make a frame to take a sign behind the back window, dimensions will be 150cm x 70cm (can go a little bigger if need be).

Can also put a sign on the back gate, dimensions 138cm x 45cm, just the gate size, but any bigger will give the plod an excuse to pull me over.

For the signs, was thinking the top one saying "Warning Cheese Ahead" in big bold, then "No Cheesecutters" under it.

For the tailgate, "STOP Safety Barriers KILLING us!"

    Thoughts?

Can anyone help out with the signs? I only have tarps, blue and green, white thick material would be preferable, I can help paint the signs, not an issue, and will make the frame, just need suitable material, like canvas or something.

Thinking for the bottom of the top sign ie; "No Cheesecutters", to be in red paint, with intentional runs.

wouldn't going along the waterfront to/from mission bay be reasonably public?

If we get a bit of sun (yeah right) the Mission Bay road is horrendous. Kids, families, cars everywhere, no parking. Would have to ride single file. Bit like the stopping on the bridge option. Too dangerous.

Awesome, pretty easy to see vehicle.

From a marketing point of view we need the public to understand what we're doing for two reasons. 1) Because if they don't they're not going to go home to Google "Cheesecutter Barrier" and 2) if your selling something, and we are selling this concept, and someone doesn't understand you it's like called them dumb. If you do that people won't even but something from you that they need let alone join into an idea of something that they perceive little or no benefit in.

I think "Wire Rope Barriers" clearly gives a name to cheesecutters that anyone will understand and associate with them next time they see one.

    to add to above post.

But having the word cheesecutter does let people visualise the damage they can do.

I agree.I think the slogan Cheesecutter Barriers is too vague for the average moron.

Killer Barriers is better. - like killer roads
