Y'know what pipeman? y'know what? I would GLADLY leave my work at work but when I go to motorbike rallies, the pub or any other place the public DON'T let me leave my work at work.
I don't know what you do for work, but every where I go people introduce me by saying "this is scumdog, he's a cop", what chance do you think I have of blending in and being "human"?
Glad to know you have work, hope you don't have any stress etc with it, BTW I spent 20+ years at freezing works, woollen mills, tree pruning etc so I know what the mythical 'real world' is, ok? or should I say 'eh?'.

I'll tell you one thing pipeman, my mates at rallies etc KNOW what I do for a job AND DON'T GIVE A FAT RATS ARSE!! in fact at one 'social event' (motorbike event) I was asked by one of my non-police mates if they could 'smack-down' some loser that was trying to give me a hard time about being a cop but I told him I didn't give a shit and the loser wasn't worth it.

I don't give a shit how you spell words generally but have a go at me end you take your chances matey, - anyway at all!!

Can either SD or Spud tell us then what instruction you guys are under with respect to speeding on the job? Are you obliged by your procedures to flick your flashing lights on the minute you need to (or want to) speed, or can you speed no matter what provided you can say you were doing it as a necessity of your work at that moment?
    Cheers

The only official discrepencies are for speed and traffic lights, stop signs etc. Cops don't have immunity from being charged with a driving offence.

Once you exceed the posted speed limit you are supposed to activate your warning lights and sirens. However there are many times when this is detrimental to the job you are attending. For instance, a burglar is seen breaking into a neighbouring property, the neighbour calls police. Police want to get there as quickly as possible to catch the prick on the property. Its typical to have multiple units descending on the property from all different directions. If they are all displaying lights and sounding sirens the burglar will hear them from miles away and do a runner. The same burglar might have a mate waiting in a car down the road and if he sees a cop he will text his mate to get out of the house. Red & Blue lights can be seen from miles away, especially at night.

There are heaps of other scenarios but I don't have all day to tell stories.

If a cop has a prang there will always be an investigation. If he was speeding and didn't have lights flashing he'll be in the crap. If you get flashed by a speed camera, you'll get the ticket except if you have lights activavted and the speed is reasonable in the circumstances, (its a judgement call). When you get flashed by a camera while responding to a job the proceedure is that you submit a report to the area commander, when he gets the camera ticket he will check your report and if its all correct then the ticket will be waived.

Thanks for that Spud, I was wondering with respect to Timetogo's comment about a Cop doing 140.

I take it from what you are saying that unless you are on a job that requires legitimate covert action, then your instructions are to put the flashing lights on.

I must say I laugh at US TV shows and movies where they show the cops as dumbasses all screaming with lights blazing to a spot where they hope to surprise the bad-guy, and generally it results in numerous wrecks as they crash into each other on the way, and surprise surprise, when they get there - nothing.
    Cheers

I'd love to hear the follow up story to that!
You would love that wouldn't you. I rest my case
Nice to see you are still around and actively reading the feelings of people you deal with ever day. Have a nice day officer

I don't think I ,or most other people here, have a problem with you and Spud as people. See that is the problem with not having face to face contact it is hard to show what is really meant. It is the system you work in and some individuals in that system that are the problem. I have never meet you so how can I like or dislike like you as a person? I can say that I vent here over the system and address it to you as you are implementing the system. So it is when you are introduced as a traffic cop. It is the system that is normally under attack not you as a person. I concede that my complaint is not with you and apologise for the attacks on you two as people. Mind you , you set yourselves up as targets. A good trolling tactic? Hope to meet you at a KB ride some day.

The official word is that lights should be activated once the speed limit is exceeded. The reality is that to do the job properly this is sometimes impracticle.

    The solution

To avoid personal attacks on people, we need to implement something hollywood thought of ages ago... ROBOCOP What could possibly go wrong?

Don't worry now Scumdog, spudchucka, etc... your jobs would still be secure, you would just move over to Robocop maintanance.

Did I mention I TRIED to join the police force?

Nup. Fuck that. Spud', Scum' and Dobman. You're all pricks.

I can't stand any of you for doing one of the shittiest, most thankless jobs on Earth. I've only met one of you and had a few brief messages from another but I've made my mind up, all cops are wankers.

You were the first there trying to resuscitate my best mate when he killed himself drunk driving, you were 'round in a shot when the schitso' naibour of The handbrake threatend to "fuck her and the girls up". When my mate got stabbed in the lung in the main street of Dunedin during a stupid fucken fight years ago, you guys were there handing out some "polite" justice before taking the crazy wanker away.

Nah, cops are pricks, I fucken hate 'em all.

ahh - the issue here is that MOST people can't separate the issue (being a cop) from the person, and all they do is bitch about the ticket they got, the burg that didn't get solved, blah blah blah. why do you think cops (generally) stick together when out riding, drinking, partying, fighting? i infrequently go riding with non-police, as even though i am now an ex, i still get hassled over how quick i ride, or how much road i use etc, and i really can't be fucked with it. the guys (cops) i ride with ride - VFR800 (usually on the back wheel), CB1300 (like he stole it), Duke 900SS (with the LOUDEST pipes you've ever heard), and a ZZR600 (a maniac in a past life). we NEVER hassle each other how fast we ride, and never bitch about the ticket/burg/blah blah. you know, i'd like to one day go on a kb ride, but unless i chose my riding buddies well, i don't think that the person would be separated from the issue.
