What's the point of my post? Simple - we are all normal people and so are you and the law as it stands is an ass. You aren't to blame, you only do your job, but no use trying the moral high ground, few believe it and hence the pressure has come on the politicians and we are starting to see the odd crack in their approach with this instruction for visibility going out.
Thanks for the 'understanding' Merv, o.k., I'll come clean, I have been guilty of speeding (got a ticket in 1987 to prove it) but I must be 'luckier' than all the whingers 'cos I've not had one since - and I wasn't ALWAYS a cop so don't go thinking I've been getting pinged and showing my 'warrant card'.
Follow me anytime in my 'work' car and except for emergencies etc you'll find I DON'T speed - too many 'ordinary people' just can't wait to call in and say "I saw one of your cops speeding and he's not allowed to"

If I come clean too, surprise, surprise I have had one speeding ticket on a motorcycle in 35 years and that was for speeding in Napier back in December 1973 being caught by a City Council cop as they were in those days. I have never had another ticket on a bike since (how do I maintain that luck?), but I do speed when I feel happy that I can and use my judgement. However, I have had a few tickets in the car my last being last year with a "hidden in the bushes" guy. Daughter calls me, wanting to be picked up late at night in Welly, I head off down the road and he pings me South of Paremata roundabout around 11.45pm quiet road, clear easy visibility, 4 lane road etc etc - totally safe in my view. That is what sluts the public off - the unreasonableness of the Government enforced approach.

I have said before I don't like it, but I'm buggered if I can see a simple way to fix this because it isn't a one size fits all situation so we get laws that allow for the lowest common denominator that piss of the many because of the incompetent actions of the few.
    Cheers

    Merv

So let me see if I'm getting this right, you think you should be allowed to give a cop a punch in the face to defend yourself because you're dumb enough to break the law?

This depends on their attitude. When you hand over your licence and say yes sir no sir and still get the smart ass comments from them about how tuff it is catching bike riders and how it makes their day you have a reason to want to punch them. But if they are nice about it and want to talk about bikes and or just do the basics of their job then no problem. We have a bunch of smart cops over here from Pomy land and they are smart. Not doing the police ,public relations any good. Anyway I have not had to speak to any of them for a while so no big deal. The chip on the shoulder is getting smaller over time.

Interesting to note you live in South Otago. I once followed a cop in a car down an often used back road, i sat about 1.5-2 k's back, hopefully far enough back so he wouldn't seem me in his rear vision mirrior. I followed him for a good 30 km's his average speed would have been round 130-140. He certainly didn't pull anone over. That is until he got onto the main road in a small town, mataura in fact THEN he pulled someone over for traveling at what was was probalby more than 50 kph on state highway one. Could got out and punched the f..ker
Having lived in scotland now for quite a few years and about to return home i'm dreading the revenue collecting that goes on there. Had many tickets in NZ for speeding obviously, funnily enough i've never had one here and i drive a damn sight faster as does everyone else i guess. Could quote several similar examples, like being pulled for 108 on a nice sunny day, straight road and the only other car on the road was a cop coming the other way about a km away

Be aware Timetogo that all is not as it seems, I'm not saying the incident you saw fits this catagory but I know of incidents where Police have had to intercept motorists with urgent family news (as in BAD news) other times also have had info from the public on bad driving by someone and Police try and 'cut them off' and deal with them.
Quite often it is a case of 'I'll boot it a bit and I should just meet them at XXX before they get to YYY road'.
Not sticking up for those that flout the law while doing their job but more just explaining there may be a logical explanation.

Next time you're dealing with a cop and you feel like smacking him in the face, why don't you just go right ahead and do it? Knock that smirk off his face! Vent your spleen on the devil. Show him where his place is and treat him like the lowly public servant that he is..................................

I'd love to hear the follow up story to that!

I'm having a few days off to get laid back (Mrs SD helps here) and chill out and have been supping a few Laphoraighs, pity it's so late or I could really get going!! See y'all at the Waikaia Rally (run by M.A.T.E.S.) NEXT weekend!!

I guess I'm letting my consumption of fine Scots liquor cloud my judgement but huh, the rest of the population feel it's a valid excuse for venting their spleen!!

Ooops! I'm onto Tullibardine now but I guess that means nothing to a Lion Red driner like you eh?
