Biker and "rider" down

Just heard that a few days ago a girl went down just up the road from me in Karaka on this corner where cars spit gravel out so there's a line of gravel right through the middle of the corner.

From what I know she came out with a broken arm, hope there's nothing much more to it. Best wishes for a fast recovery from that!

Just to add to this thread : A 15yr old daughter of a guy I play tennis with was riding (yes, but a horse) 2 weeks ago when another horse kicked out and shattered her horse's leg throwing her off but not badly, her horse had to be put down. There goes several grand! And then, when things were bad enough...Early this week she was riding a horse from pony club and it threw her off, she's come out with a broken pelvis needing surgery and screws in her hip etc

. I feel so sorry for her, talk about bad luck!

They'd probably be OK if they had handlebars and brakes.
Oh - and they were lowered a bit; the C of G (or is that "GG"?) is a bit high.

Yeah it's wierd, I swept it just two weeks ago

, just the way the corner is and how the cars travel bring it back out within a week! I'll keep sweeping it but it quite easy to see the gravel and that you should take it like a nanny!

Yep, some of those things put out, what, 1 horsepower?

Reading up on Wikipedia the other day about this, horses can put out a peak horsepower of 14.9hp; however over longer periods of time they do a bit less than 1hp.

Humans can do 1.2 peak horsepower, I think it was 0.1-0.2hp over long periods.

Some pointless but relevant trivia: Justin Grace, an acquaintance of mine and the NZ track cycling champion for several years running, puts out a measured 2000 watts at the crank of his bike during sprints.

Sure, but not stock. Those horses have had all the mods - shoes, exhaust, the works.

Shouldn't the govt and horse industry work on an agreement to limit these dangerous 15hp horses to an industry-agreed voluntary standard of 1hp via some kind of limiter?

(sorry, feeling silly today and quite giddy as mired in the most tedious work

)
