One strange idea on the intersection of Queen St.

I was waiting for the traffic light on Queen st. and watching the pedestrians crossing Queen st.

Suddenly, I had this strange idea:

Can I get off my bike, join the pedestrians and "walk" my bike to the other side of the traffic light? Is that technically legal as Im walking not riding on my bike?

If it is legal, it will be so funny few bikers do this together.

    Well cyclists do it...

Although on the other hand, they also blatantly run reds and do all other sorts of stupid shit, so that may not be the most persuasive argument...

Haha, I've thought about this myself.

I did something (sort of) similar; horrendous traffic on Pah Rd the other day, in the bit where it goes from two lanes into one then back into two again. No room to split. Rode the bike onto the footpath, switched the engine off, and walked the few hundred metres to the head of the lights and got back on. Way faster than waiting in traffic.

Hmmm - I've wondered about that in the past also... trouble was, the 1100 (GSX) - and for that matter, even the Duc - are heavy enough that I would rather ride across...

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't, try it next time.

    Switch the engine off first.

I wouldn't necessarily have the balls to do it right in front of a copper, but I reckon most would have enough sense of humour to refrain from ticketing you and just laugh

Dont see why it wouldnt be legal, I'd imagine by the time youve switched the bike off and pushed it across to the other side of the intersection the light would have gone green anyway.

Meh I don't see the problem with that. I ride my motorcycle on bike tracks, and footpaths (if there's no kiddywinks around). So long as they don't go zooming across the pedestrian crossing at four times the speed of pedestrians (thus catching you by surprise), I don't see the difference to be honest. Live and let live, man.

Not entirely related but I pushed my CBR900 on a walking footpath across a field in Remuera. Almost dropped the beast and couple of ladies were laughing at me.....good laugh...

Hey! What if I got out of my car and pushed it to the other side of the traffic lights? Would that be OK???

What if I asked everyone on the bus to get out and push that accross?

What are those pills that you are on?

Yeah cyclists do but does that make it dumb or are you jelous? No licence plate has advantages. I used to cycle courier and had fun all day long splitting the stopped traffic on the wrong side of the road, blazing through ped's crossing at Queen and Victoria at lunch time, thats a tricky game to calculate all the moving people at once! It's a matter of perspective, is filtering to the front at the lights on a moterbike stupid? Only if your in a car!! If your jelous of all the cool stuff a bycicle lets you do why don't you get one?
I'm selling my new riding gear!! Only worn a few times get a deal Kiwibikers!!

No, just dumb. I'm more than happy to wait the twenty seconds for the lights to change. I doubt anyone's life is going to take a turn for the worse if they also have to.

I'm sure that is a argument that the rider of the maroon CBR that people were bitching about in a different thread could use too: "Splitting at 140+? Ha! It's just a bit of fun, my good friend!". Or skidMark. I'm all for having a bit of fun, but "blazing" through pedestrians? Not when someone else stands to get hurt. Just a old-fashioned bit of consideration for other people. Quaint I know, but I can't help it. Guess I'll have to go play some more video games to desensitise myself.

I'm quite happy doing stupid things on a motorbike, let alone a bicycle too. Besides which, I've been a cyclist in the past, and since then moved up in the world - why would I want to downgrade?
