What to do in an accident??

I attended a slow speed riding course in the weekend, run by Steve of Ulysses. It was great, and I practiced some good stuff. Great. Will do it again.
One point made was,in a 2 party accident, where it is clear you are not at fault,no matter how minor your injuries are, call an Ambulance. Apparently, this means it becomes an accident causing injury, meaning the police MUST attend. This means you have the support of the police[assuming it was not your fault] and it is clearly documented in case of further insurance and legal ramifications.
Have others heard of this, is it useful and is it the law? I guess if it is a minor off, there is the chance you just want to get going, and an apologetic driver may harden their opinion later, and decide in fact, it was not their fault....!
    Your opinions.....

Not sure if that is how the law sees it. If injury is sustained then it is a requirement to have it reported within 24 hours.
Calling an Ambulance is a good idea as it is standard protocol for Ambos to contact Police in this case. If you don't call for them you can bet that someone driving past will if they see a bike down!
Given the workload of Police there is no gaurantee that they will be able to attend before Ambulance leave the scene. They will follow up however if someone is removed to hospital.
In any case it would be wise to report it to Police even if you are the inocent party, why let them get away with causing accidents!
YES its fast and NO you can't have a ride!

Sitting on the fence on this one really. Sounds like a good idea, but then I wouldn't want to waste Ambo's time when they could be responding to someone else who needs them more.

Same here. I've taken enough legitimate rides in the ambulance that I really don't want to be waiting for them the next time I need them because some guy wants to make sure his insurance claim is going to stick. If the legal framework is broken such that this is really necessary, that's what needs changing, and wasting the ambulance service's time isn't (to me) an acceptable way to subvert a broken process.

Pretty irresponsible to ring an ambo when you don't need one, hope no one with a real need dies while your wasting their time and resources.

I'd imagine they can fine time wasters.

Besides, the cops are just as likely to write you out a few tickets for the accident and tell you to fight it in court if you disagree,

I don't see a reason not to call the police straight away instead of the ambulance. all you need is an incident report and therefore police will be just fine to come by themselves and investigate.... I agreee about the time wasting of the ambulances. Even if the police does not come straight away, if you are the one that made the call , they start seeing things a little bit more from your point of view. thats what I think.

Agreed with above, don't waste time, call the cops and request them to attend. If you don't have an injury, don't waste precious resources on it, someone else could be in much greater need.
Actually I think it was a bit irresponsible for it to be suggested as an okay thing to do.

Sounds like common sense to me. If you are slightly injured-call the police on the spot, with a cell. I think protecting yourself from the car driver changing their story later is important, but agree about a waste of ambo's time.

speaking of cells, if you're living in this century use your phone camera to gather evidence of the crash scene before mong head moves his wagon.

Ummm are you sure about this?

I am curious about this because I had an m/bike accident at Easter weekend this year and was carted off to hospital via ambulance where I stayed for five days before going home and recuperating for five weeks.

At no time have I seen or heard from the Police, or indeed anyone who looked as though they may have represented our 'boys/ girls in blue'.

What ever you do is what ever you do ....
But the one thing you do
    Is NEVER ADMIT FAULT
Even if you are in the wrong
go ask your insurance and they will tell you the same
you may also find your better to keep the police out of it
    its just easier.

ALWAYS say im not admiting anything thats the insurances job to do
If they say but your in the wrong you cant say that
Tell them my insurance policy wont let me admit anything.
    (You need to do this)
