    Getting off a ticket

Ok to cut a long story short I only have 2 mins to use this computer,
A mate of mine recently got a decent ticket for doing 184 on the motorway in a car
before you get all ancy and flame away, he is well older than me, and it was out of character for him to do this, he only did it - then went back to the speed limit, was also very late at night with no other cars around, cept the cop
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the cop got his birth date wrong on the ticket, can this help him in anyway ??? Can somebody please direct me to a link outlining how the legislation works so he can read through it
    cheers

At 84kmh over the limit, the cock is already pretty far up his ass. How far wrong was the birthdate?

Don't think he'll have much of a chance, but maybe if he talks really nicely in court about it being out of character and has few previous offences to show otherwise he might get off better than if he had had a big ticket before.

    S 204 Summary Proceedings Act

No information, complaint, summons, conviction, sentence, order, bond, warrant, or other document, and no process or proceeding shall be quashed, set aside, or held invalid by any [District Court] or by any other Court by reason only of any defect, irregularity, omission, or want of form unless the Court is satisfied that there has been a miscarriage of justice.

at 84k over, all your mate has probably received is a traffic offence notice, that is only a notice of intention to be charged. unless he was arrested that is.

Do the crime, do the time

Tell your mate to harden up and face it like a man, he was caught doing 184km!!
Forget about errors on the form

    My 2 cents worth

Agreed! why exactly are you asking? Do you think this forum is full of people that are protesting against the speeding laws?

That depends on what he was driving. 184 isn't that fast, it's only just over 100mph.

So you guys seem to have far more respect for traffic law over there than we have in the UKs system since the move to introduce cameras and remove traffic officers.

I NEVER exceed the limit in built up areas (30/40mph limits) but in the right places I prefer to rely on my 20+ years riding/driving experience to judge a suitable speed

The roads are a damn sight worse over here (even the motorways) and the driver training is not as rigorous - and a LOT of people are uninsured and driving cars waaay out of their league (in my experience since i moved here, that is). I don't think it's a respect for the law, as much as a respect for the fact that when there's a stuff up, there are generally more consequences.

I never really worried about the speed in the UK unless there were traffic cameras around, cos the roads would let me get away with my mistakes. Having said that, I never used to go too far over (I think 90mph was about the most I would do on a motorway and generally 40mph in most 30 zones) Dad being a cop and all that!

There's also less disposable income here to pay your traffic fines....! (Dave's just got one that we have to find $120 for....*sigh*)
