and avgas - when you get to the UK and want to get your bike licence. oh sorry, you need to sit these tests, then you can ride a restricted 125cc scooter. then open a bank account. oh sorry, you have no saving history in the UK. then get insurance. oh sorry - a hot hatch? no insurance history? that'll be 1000 pounds with 1000 excess. oh you ride a cicle? hahahahahahaha. then rent a flat. oh sorry - no history? you can have this squat in houndslow (at least ya get to watch the aeroplanes come and go) for a 120 quid a week. oh would you like to fill up your vehcile with petrol? that'll be 1.20 (pounds) a litre (ouch!) oh would you like to see some sun? that'll be back around march..... and a pint of lager? that'll be 5 quid thanks mate.

lets hope you can earn more than 200 a week.......

i have just made enquiries to get a UK commercial pilots licence. 60 000 pounds for a basic licence. even if i have a NZ CPL ($40 000 to get), i can only transfer 20% to UK time, meaning if i had spent $60000 here, i will still be at the bottom of the heap, and need to spend another 30000 quid!

hey - we all look forward to your tales of how much better it is though.

Me too. Being an Aussie originally I'm used to a bit more warmth. The best thing that could happen to NZ would be to drag the North Island several degrees closer to the equator. Leave the SI where it is, though, for the skiing.

Then it would be truly paradise.

If I am reading this right, this Driver (Bo Cong) has been in a Student studying in a Uni for over 3 years and he still does not understand the word "forbidden" is a load of bollix.

To gain entry to Uni he must have sat a test to show a reasonable understanding of english. To have been in Auckland Uni for 3 years he must be studying a course in English and not chinese.

Even if he was learning English he would have know by now.

So I think his parents just paided a very handsome amount to a lawyer who lied about it. I personally would really like to proof that he has an understanding of english well and beyond "forbidden", heck put me in undercover with him at communit work and I'll show u the truth.

So he is sentenced to disqualified from driving for 2 years.... does he understand that?

Oh and don't tell me he doesn't have a english to chinese dictionary.

    just really sad.............
yes exactly, and the point this family wanted to make was the fact that their son's life was not respected to the degree that any other form of preventable death would have been in the eyes of the law and appropriate sentencing delivered, the case where little girl who was savaged by a dog in auckland, was given far higher sentencing for the people who owned the dog, than this guy got, it isn't right or fair for any repeat offender to be able to go and do their crime over again, and it's about time we all stood up and said so.

run that by me, exactly how the government affected the sentencing? considering I know of no law change since the National government that would have affected the sentence?

I find the sentence appalling too, but your connecting it with the government and left-wing politics in general is just strange.
