Bloody Yamaha

I had this problem ya' see.
When I bought bike it had a new warrent.It shouldn't have.
Well I fixed most things, but the indercators were a bit of a worry aye.
They would flash on one side ok but not the other.they both worked while bike was running over 1500 RPM but only one side at idle.
So the first warrent runs out and I go to my local warrent/understanding type guy.He don't like it much,but being the understanding type he lets it go with instructions to get it fixed by next time.
So next time came an went a few weeks ago an I still havn't fixed it.
I replace the indercator unit at great cost $10.00.
I put it in a few days ago an it still don't work(becoming unhappy)
A mate say's check the light bulbs,they got to be the right very low resistance ones(silly bugger him)But I check them anyway.
He's right(silly bugger me).
This is were it gets very Yamaha.
The bulbs are a 12v27w and unobtainable in NZ,even the guy in the states can't get em'.
So that's why all the yanks replace the standard system huh.
The good news,Red Baron can get me some from OZ.
The bad news,they cost $18.00 each.Would of known it coming from OZ.
Even better news,I stop at said mates place on way home from work and we go through his second hand light bulbs.He wrecks Yamahas so must have something.After looking at about 100 bulbs we find ONE.I get home,put the new/second hand most exspensive indercator bulb not in the land into bike an Yipeeeee,I'll get a new warrent next week.
Pretty good day today,only got called a crook twice an chased by one dog.Now bikes up to scratch,,,,,,,,for now.

As a fellow Yamaha owner, I can commiserate.

Mine always has something or other needing attention.

This week on Monday (warrant due by Saturday this weekend) it decided to lie down in the driveway - luckily it saved its bodywork by busting its indicator, so off our local friendly ( ) wreckers for new bits. Actually they were pretty good this time - so they should - its the FIFTH bloody indicator in the last twelve months!!!

Can I ask who issued the warrent? if it was the dealer well you well with in your rights to take it back. BE STRONG you have nothing to loss. Why pay for someone elses hand me down.

Jack, if you've replaced the flasher unit with a plain, ordinary, run of the mill automotive unit (guess so at $10), it should work fine with normal, ordinary, everyday bulbs. If it works ok one side, but not the other, it sounds very much like an earthing problem somewhere. Running the engine above idle is giving the system more power to overcome the weakness in the circuit.
The bad news (but you already know this...) is there is no quick fix - you gotta work through the loom until you find the fault. Or re-wire it.

It was a Waikato shop that normaly only works on farm/trail bikes.
I won't say who,because they were probably just doing a mate a favour without knowing he was about to sell the bike.
Reading the American SX site it seems that to change to a normal automotive system you have to remove the auto cut off thingy and reroute other thingys and,,,well stuff that,electricitys some kind of evil magic.
