Hey - so I'm a sensitive guy. I can harden up when I have to but my point was these three guys were in a raging anger at me when I had done nothing at all. Imagine what would have happened if I had returned the finger gestures and abuse yelling, which I suspect was what they were waiting(hoping) for. I am also assuming that at 5.30 these guys are not yet tanked up on booze or chemicals and can only guess their actions get worse.
You are from Dunedin - so tell me that you haven't noticed (or experienced firsthand) the huge increse in violence here in the last 18 months especially.

4 large armed Polynesian guys vs one white guy? Due to a lack of (vandalised) phone boxes (to change into my Superman outfit) or a 357 Magnum,i decided discretion was the better part of valour, and left 3 car lengths gap- the light changed to green so they lost interest!

As for young people driving/riding anything modified or expensive, forget it. I know riders who were stupid in the past (DIC, careless use etc.) who have to wait till they hit 40 to get their dream bike since it takes years to get their premiums down. Over there it is: no insurance = no ride.

There are already enough laws to deal with boy racers. They just need to be enforced and fines need to be recovered.

Too right!! Be carefull what you wish for it may come true!

IMO as soon as 3rd Party insurance becomes comulsory we will ALL end up paying more.... and shitheads will STILL drive around without it!

Not if the law here harden the f*ck up. Do what other countries do where 3rd party insurance is compulsory and make driving without it a criminal offence. No insurance = ban. Driving whilst banned = prison.

Yeah, 'cos that works really well in the UK. EVERYONE has insurance there, and it's so cheap and accessible.

Probably because even the dimmest of Boy racer would know a VTR would whip thier skinny white arses and make them look pathetic. I was on what would look to them to be an old trail bike so was probably considered (incorrectly as it turns out) easy meat.

PS. if any of you KBer's from Dunedin see me introduce yourself. I'll also be racing at Silverstream on Sunday.

Insurance is compulsory there. There are some who don't have insurance. If they get caught they get a ban. If they get caught driving whilst banned they get in a lot of trouble - take my word for it - I have a couple of mates who this applies to.

My last UK bike insurance premium for a 950 was 175 quid, fully comp. My last UK car premium was just under 500 quid for a 993 Turbo 4, fully comp.

When I was 17 I simply couldn't afford to insure a raced up Impreza unless Daddie was loaded.

However, if you have a heavily endorsed license, or you've had a ban in the past, or you crash all the time then your premiums are f*cking high. Good or bad thing?

Now, there's plenty wrong in the UK but I was talking about NZ. I just think there's much that the powers that be here could do to improve road safety.

The drivers here in chch are bordering on the insane,I,ve been sideswiped by boy racers, nearly knocked off by a dad in a 4 by 4 with a baby on board, driven off the road by a tatooed dude who got pissed off cos I overtook him and thats just a few to mention,I could talk all day about near misses and angry blondes in boy racer cars but what can you do........the last thing I want is to brawling in the street over trying to stay alive and I really have no idea how to get these people to stop and think of the consequences of killing somebody because they are road raged,I remeber being here over 3 years ago and it being not a good place to ride but in the last few years it has turned from bad to worse.......

In the US some riders keep little round pieces of metal handy for the likes of those described above. Not that I am condoning such action . . . . .

    What does a windscreen cost . . . .

Well the majority do and it keeps the little idiots out of Imprezas or any modified car - so yep I agree that its working

Well its cheap and accessable here and people dont take it because they would rather spend it on getting some 20" chrome spinners with flashing LEDs on hire purchase.

Its not too expensive in the UK if you have a good record and drive a sensible car.

I had a Renault family car and insurance was very reasonable. I had 2 "group 20" cars (brand new Subaru STI tuned by ProDrive and a Porsche 911) and insurance for them was not cheap but not too bad as I had a clean record and lived in a low crime area.
