The vertical posts are not permanently attached to the ground, they just sit into a fixture, and are designed to break and or pull out when hit hard enough. This is to help absorb the energy and make them easy to replace.

God, that is such a great pic, you could explain the effects of these barriers till your blue in the face, or just show them that pic, the proof right in front of their face.

Although now after seeing that, I'm even going to be worried driving past in my cage as I thought I would be fine if I some how managed to hit them, guess not.

Perfect support piccy for my contention that cheesecutters are not safe for anyone. Thanks for posting that.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Anybody got any figures of how many trucks have been through those barriers??

xx accidents involving trucks were not stopped by Wire Rope Barriers in the last year looks like some useful propaganda.

also, a concrete barrier for a car makes the cars crumple zones work as intended, i.e. more safer-er.

hitting a wire rope at speed? instant convertible, not to mention haircut.

This picture is about to be circulated within the Labour Party MP's in Parliament... with a brief message...... plus the message that I read out at the protest ride in Auckland.

Picture works a treat. I have just gotten another 5 pages signed using that picture during my lunchbreak.

Total so far is 15 pages signed. I have dropped off petition forms in 3 large local businesses with 100+ staff each. Will collect them next week

Do you want more than one? Can print a few if you like.

Has anyone dropped a copy in to the Motomail shops? If not I will drop them in.

If people can walk around their business areas during your lunchbreaks you can easily fill a few pages. Will try the central viaduct basin area tomorrow. Need to push hard over the next few weeks as most people I approach are well aware of what happened the other week due to the press coverage and people are far more willing to sign

That's a really good point. I'm sure that the car manufacturers/safety organisations would be a bit concerned with crumple zones not being able to function correctly.
