Look there's such a thing as creative accounting, believe me, I know and like I said, just give us a preference list not withstanding budget at this stage, but focus on type of bike, always worry about the bucks last I say, people will always find a way to stretch a bit (I encourage it, can you tell? )

Perfection is not something you should ever attain, but something to always strive for. For if we actually achieve our idea of perfection, is it then any longer perfect?

Not a reality for some of us I'm afraid.

    Or jrandom could just HTFU.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

I've spent the last few months HTFUing on regular occasions for 800km days on the gixxers, and I'm over it. I want my riding to be 100% enjoyable, instead of having it be something that requires 'HTFU'.

And a list of bike preferences?

I'm just going to take it one bike at a time. I'll test ride a CB1300 this week.

Then I think I'll try an FZ1, a Hornet 900 and a Speed Triple back to back.

I'll wangle a decent thrash on each of the above along the usual Coatesville-Riverhead, Old North Rd test track, and report.

Prediction: Out of that lot you'll prefer the FZ1 -- that's one model Mr Yamaha got really right. Try the old model Kawasaki Z1000 too if you can find one, although you will probably have to upgrade the seat for longer distances.

That's the first time I've ever seen that written down.

I may have to try one.

    $10k budget

$11k = brand spanking new Hornet 900 (919), 2 year warranty, and your legs will be fine! Plus its a Honda so it will go forever......

There's a few year old ones at dealers etc cheaper will the balance of the warranty leaving $ for bling....

CB1300 - $13500 weighs 30 odd kg more than the Hornet & very average fuel economy, solid tourer though.

SV1000S - $12500 & your legs will hate you..... plus the TL looked better......

Speed tripple - not a chance at 10k

Might get a jap import Ducati but the SV would be a better buy as a V-twin.

Me - I'd get the HORNET - funny that!

Only get the Hornet if you're going to put money into the susspension. Theres a $0 exhaust mod that will make it sound better than any commercial can that I've heard on a Hornet.

Great motor though, and with the right bars you'll do 230km non-stop stretches easy.

I heard a lot of chatter about the Hornet suspension before purchasing - honestly I find it AOK for street riding and its a hoot around the hills, heaps better than the 1200ss I had previously. Mind you I'm only 73kg. The 05 on models come with adjustable damping front and rear (previous ones preload only) and this improved a lot of the complaints. SV's are the same, CB1300's XJR's all budget related suspenders, you don't get top units for the prices these bikes retail at. Cheapest Hornets, SV's and 1300 on the planet - check out what Aussie and England pay!

I'd be keen to ride a Olins kitted one just to see if it was worth the $2k plus difference for road riding.
