Tightening spokes

I just aquired a peewee 80 ultimately for baby bikie to grow into.
It does have one issue ive forgotten how to deal with.
All the spokes in the back wheel are loose-very loose.
Im tighteing the spokes a half turn at a time going from side to side of the wheel.
I seem to recall that the spokes need to be tight enough that they "sing" with the same note
Any other suggestions

Contact 'speedpro' (Mike) down at Henderson Bikeshop.

He did the rear wheel spokes on my bike for me........ and he has done heaps of spokes on his bucket race bikes.

Yep you're onto it, they've got to feel tight and have the same sound when you spin the wheel and say hold your spanner against them - as you said so they sing the same.

Tighten them up bit as a time too like you've said so that the wheel stays true.

yea outa true wheel might be interesting if he starts making big jumps

You need to alternate side to side and front to back as well (ie side to side on the hub, along the axle axis, and side to side on the rim, along the bike axis)

When they're right, they sound "ding" when you hit them, not "dung". Hard to describe but you'll know it when you hear it.

A caution: if you must tighten quite a bit there is a chance that the tightening may make the spoke end poke up out of the nipple inside the tyre. and the sharp edge of the spoke will then rub on the inner tube. With predictable results.
