Really , well i get sick of elderly peoples poor driving being excused , even when they cause death and injury , if its good enough for a motorcyclist to be thrown around and roughed up by the cops then its good enough for the elderly .
If that motorcyclist caused no injury and got away then who gives a fuck , i certainly dont , Im more concerned about the time and effort the cops put into it , get the rego let him go thats all they need to do, that many cops chasing makes it only more dangerous

Ah latte's!! If it came with doughtnuts he might get off.

Shame EAGLE was not operating or available at the time. The dickhead rider (who clearly likes riding over the centreline into oncoming traffic on a blind corner) was riding straight into it's lair.

I wonder how some of the people on this website praising his actions would feel if he had head on crashed into a member of their family or a close friend? I've seen innocent people killed and badly injured because of other people doing exactly what this guy did.

I hope he hit a tree and gets a bill for the negative carbon credits.

Other than raising a few questions about the origins of the video itself, the footage demonstrated something quite clearly; in this case, whilst the rider was certainly riding like a dick (over the centre line on bends at pretty high speeds), the police response was futile and as dangerous.

There was an article in today's Sunday Harold about police chases, mainly in response to the police's decision to lay charges against an officer who was involved in a pursuit (chasing someone doing 70 in a 50, apparently) earlier this year and badly injured a teenager when he lost control, crashing into a pole and bringing it down on the teenager's head. The article mentioned a number of other incidents where the cops involved in chases crashed or caused injury.

I'm not trying to absolve the rider (or anyone else who runs) of blame here. I'm just saying that if someone decides to run, the chances of them later on deciding to stop of their own accord is unlikely. Chases such as these more often than not end up in a crash of some sort. In this case, the rider was so far ahead of his pursuers and capable of passing the traffic so much faster, the cops would have been better just taking the plate down and investigating later, or sending the chopper up to follow from the air. Having five or six chasing cars was utterly pointless and arguably posed more risk to the public than the actions of the biker. And if the biker wasn't being chased, there's a chance he might have slowed down a bit, reducing the risk still futher.

As would those with false/no plates.

But wait, all is not lost, Police are setting up a data-base of 'people-who-know-what-Police-should-have-done' when there has been a shooting, fatal crash whatever.,

And the next time a similar incident happens they will consult this data-base, swing by and pick up this person and ta-da! no more problem with doing the wrong thing, no need for PCA investigation, no more nasty headlines - we ALL win.

Ignoring the obvious sarcasm, Mr Scumdog, but assuming you have seen the footage posted, you will have observed the distance at which the cars were pursuing the motorbike. And the road they are on is busy most of the time, and goes onto Auckland's motorway network in about 10km from where the footage was taken. Given that the cars hadn't a bat's chance in hell of catching the bike unless there was a crash, what purpose did the pursuit serve?

suspect gets mates to vouch for his whereabouts....

it's called reasonable doubt - and if my bike was stolen and the police accused me of doing a runner i'd be pretty pissed if the court agreed with them.

but if the guy is running up some pretty open roads without many turnoffs how hard would a roadblock be?

glad he didn't cause an accident, and now i know to watch out for an unmarked silver non-holden cop car

Thats a poor arguement, who gives a rats arse if a car is stolen,if the police pursue it till it crashes or even worse it crashes into an innocent person then what have they achieved ? the police in that case would have been better doing nothing just like they do with burgs and assaults etc etc.
We have insurance for car theft we dont need cowboy hero cops pursuing at high speed
