Cruisers - Just ride them!

Being a strict sports-tour man myself, I will shamefully admit that when Donor let me put a leg over his steed.. it only took a few minutes before I 'got' why people ride cruisers. It definitely has a more consistant feel of freedom, that's for sure.

I'd buy me one if I had the moolah, but I just lurve destroying my back too much

And these cruisers rides , are they restricted to just cruisers? I'm not much of a speed demon, much prefer to cruise (heh) and take in the scenery and ride in group rides, than having my knee kiss asphalt 24/7.

Sounds like you were having fun, cruisers are a different beast to ride than a sprots bike no argument there, you do have to get your head around them first. Once you have you won't go back to a sprots bike

While I can touch the ground sitting on your beast jafar, I am still not sure that I would be happy with all the low down weight, I am sure I would tip over when I stopped.......LOL or worse when I am stopped at the same time as a bunch of other bikers on an off camber piece of loose metal parking.....imagine slow, slow, stop, wobble, wobble and over she goes.........then the shames of picking her back up again.....LOL

I was/am a sports-tourer man too, it took me a while to 'get' the cruiser thing as well, cruisers were a bit odd, feet out front sitting upright relatively slow by comaprison to a sports-tourer or so I thought. That impression was so wrong, the whole concept of a cruiser is totally different to anything else on two wheels. Speed doesn't come into it, it's not the destination thats important, its the getting there thats the fun, riding solo , two up or in a group the grin factor is there no matter where you go

Cruiser rides are NOT restricted to cruisers, anyone on two wheels is welcome even sports bikes,250's are welcome too.

Yeah, although all I did was go around the block.. the bike had quite a lot of pep and I was just enjoying the ride rather than thinking about tackling the next corner etc.. so in that sense it had more of a feeling of freedom. Apart from the people who don't wave to me when I wave to them while riding () cruiser people seem to be friendly and more laid back.

Not that I'm disrespecting sports bikes, I own one myself and will for the rest of my life.. but yeah, It's nice to have some variety ! So I'll have to tag along on one of these cruiser rides one day, and try be as inconspicuous as possible hehe

i just did the swap from sports to cruiser and i agree with you totally i loooove the cruiser so much more sooooo much better!!!!

jumped on the FXR last night and it was just wrong oh so wrong

i should have made the move sooner.

Next time MOM you can take my VTX for a ride on your own, you will be pleasantly surprised @ how easy she is to handle. As you have said the weight is all down low & so is the seat height so stopping anywhere will be a lot easier for you than on a conventional bike. Don't forget you are comparing your 600cc yamaha against my 1800cc honda, the weight of my one is obviously going to be more. If you get the chance ride a cruiser of a similar cc rating to the bike you currently own & then compare . Power output will be similar on the road & you will be able to touch the ground with ease when stopped & pushing it back into a park will be so much easier. The fact that cruisers look better helps too

Lower seat height + lower center of gravity should = no catcher required.

cruisers are the only way to ride. A lot nicer people to ride with

That's it exactly, its sitting up looking around seeing whats hapening around you as well as the enjoyment of the ride, power in a straight line is good just the corner thing has to be handled with a bit of respect.

...i went back to a sports type bike as soon as i could, and that wasn't soon enough!
someone please make me understand why they are so good compared a sportsbike?

If I remember right you were riding a small cruiser, you also ride for the thrill of speed.That's where you are at the moment, a sports bike suits who you are @ this time.
When you have lost a few mates & have got to know most of the local constabulary on a first name basis, possibly lost your license & paid more in fines than the bike is worth you will start to question why you ride this style of bike & what you have gained from all the grief you have had because you ride the bike like it is ment to be ridden. When you reach this level then a cruiser suddenly seems a lot better option than a sports machine.
