eek Had my first scare on the motorway

Coming round a bend on the motorway when I'm faced with a row of red lights. Both lanes of traffic came to a complete stop right in front of me. Got onto both brakes as fast as I could. Slowing down quite fast when i noticed my rear was sliding off to the side a bit. Thats when it hit me, I locked my rear.

There was no tire squeal, no indication at all until i felt the rear go sideways. What amazed me is just how easy it was to control the bike with the rear locked. (Must be my mountain biking experience). I didn't even bother releasing it till i got to a complete stop. So yeah, from about 120 to 0 with a locked rear.

    The good things:
Got to practice emergency breaking and see how fast I can really stop.
I stopped about 20 meters earlier then I thought I would

    Bad:
Looks like the rear wheel nut wasn't tightened all the way so it moved 2 notches on the right so my bike was pulling to the right for the rest of the trip. (Got it re-aligned at TSS today, free of charge )

Glad to hear your fine and handled the rear wheel lock up OK. Best to be careful and lay off the speed if your heading around a corner you can't see around. How are you finding the Hyosung after a few months? The other half is thinking of buying one.

Its great fun but I dont really have much to compare to. All the other 250s i sat on felt really cramped. I am 192cm tall so this was the only option. It goes fast enough and stops fast too .
Its also the best looking 250 as far as i am concerned.

Swoop, not sure you are are just making a joke or not. Emergency breaking as in slowing down as fast as I can

It’s good to hear you didn’t break anything during your emergency braking

A locked wheel doesn't slow you down as quickly as a turning one. When you brake hard on a sportsbike, the weight transfers almost completely on to the front tire so it takes bugger all to lock the rear. Aim to not lock the back wheel, but if you do, get off the rear brake and back on again more gently.

Yeah i know the technique. It was more of an amazement that i got no feedback of any sort from the bike that the wheel was locked, was expecting a tire squeal at least :P

Its the best looking you can buy but after a year and a half with it living outside in the weather has really shown its build quality, alloy corrodes, frame welds not sealed properly and showing signs of rust, i just take to it with WD40 now, still great to ride however the brakes aint to flash in the rain, tyres leave a little to be desired for although they last long, rear shock is gay.

But the fuel mileage is fantastic and it looks great, im shallow so that helps.

It took me over a year and a half to figure this all out though, little more experience i guess.

It has performed well in that time with no reliability problems what so ever.

    just my 2c
