Stupid things like stators failing on almost new bikes. The engines on the ones we had at the time had some innovative features such as the concentric counter balancer and the barrel casings being part of the crankcase asssembly so they're not the kind of thing you want to try and tackle major stuff on if you're not confident mechanically.
I must add though the importer at the time (don't know if it's still Nigel Bevan) did a good job with support so we never had the parts leadtime of other exotica such as Husky's etc.

Performance wise though they are awesome! The engine aren't super snappy like a Jappa 450, 660 SMC's or NOX but they're really tractable, smooth and torquey and just as powerful. The chassis apart from showing whats on the other side of the bike are really light so they're right up there in terms of handling. The Beringer four pots I tried on the 650SM have go to be one of the best setups I used on any bike (apart from radial Brembo's).

So to some up, One frikken awesome RACE bike, not something to be taken lightly!
f00ken mean! Im eying a pair up at the moment - one is road ready and the other is a racer with road gear ready to be put on, he wants $7k for the road ready and $5k for the racer. Checking them out this week and may be KB's next motard loon all going well!

I believe the guy has started to paint the FS black, i'm keen on the FE simply because of the price, he said the FE was bought as a MX/enduro and has had FS gear put on to make it a motard, still only done 35hrs.

I know i have the motard bug after riding a WR450 around Taupo Track and on a couple of rides North of Auckland on SH16, and i'm lead to believe that the FE650 is a few kilos lighter, and has a fair few extra ponies too. The only thing i didnt like about the WR was it ran out of go on the back straight of Taupo at about 160-170kmh which was expected.. everything else was awesome!

I have seen both of them, the FE would be my pick of the two also.

    I say "Go BUY it"

Test rode today, only about 3mins and mostly straight line. Was amazed at how smooth the delivery was considering its a 650 single, but the torque sure was there! Going to check things out with the bank and then get back to the guy. Will be a little while before it goes on the road though!
