    Christchurch today

As I was going from uni to pick up mylady and our dinner I noticed an appaling lack of situational awareness in my fellow motorists.

I believe I witnessed more than six cases of not checking before changing lanes, failing to give way, blocking roads without thought for fellow drivers, etc.

Btw., I was in the car today since the bike is in for service (which is lucky since it was also pissing down).

Any other Chch'ers who witnessed an increase in poor motorist behaviour today?

Was even wondering if it had anything to do with alcohol and it being cup-day...

I was out on the bike today, got caught in the hail and rain out at Tai Tapu as well, and yeah I'd agree I noticed shit loads of idiot behaviour on the road. Luckily I didn't get caught.

Nah seriously, yes today was terrible on the roads in town.

A heck of a lot of bikers out (and scooters). Could have been nasty for one guy on a Black 250 Bandit with an L plate (no gloves, jeans and a sweater), after he split through a backed up intersection doing retarded speed. I was just about to pull out when he came blasting through the gap between a left turning garbage truck and a right turning car.

    Take it easy folks!

Yes and I think it is because there are a lot of out of towners.
Trying not to get lost in our one way streets and all our no right or left hand turns.

One year I got ask by a farmer (going by the mud on the car) what happened to the show grounds as it was no longer there.
Like it had been moved about 4 years ago.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

Cup day....oh someone already made that observation....Tuesday...always brings out the worst in peoples motoneurons skills...

but I have recently noticed a slump in the city, indication, intersections, but 99% of the time I'm aware of it happening anyway and adjust well and truly in time.

After a holiday in CHCH for a week or too I have to really give it to you guys. Jess you guys drive like utta nuttas down there. Going from Gisborne, slow and relaxed to CHCH, crazy fast and every one wants a race, in one day was real tuff. Doing 65km/h-70km/h down a 50km/h road was crazy....every one was doing it which made it even worse.

Best of luck to ya all.

    Yes, it's been crazy...

Tailgated, lane swapped without indicating, running red lights, you name it, I saw it. And to those two teenagers on red scooters comming down the road from Victoria Park in Christchurch on Sunday I think it was.....Grow up or die. You overtook your mate on a blind corner, a big race was it? I couldn't believe how stupid you were son.

And to the guy "geddin' it on" in the back seat of his (or her) 323 on a plain stretch of road in the middle of the day on the road up to the park. "Good on yer mate" ha, ha...but you should be a bit more discrete or you will get arrested.....or maybe that was part of the thrill!

Hmm seen some very dubious driving over recent weeks when out on the bike and in the cage. We were up at the sign of the Kiwi today and watched all the cars parking over the summit road at the light blocking the path of traffic. One driver got a tad upset as some long haired guy told her to open the path up for traffic she was blocking and tried initially to ignore him but I think I made my point in the end.

On the way down the hill at the Colombo street Somerfield street intersection some ignorant person in a BMW lent on the horn at me as soon as the lights went green even though the path was not clear, seems to me the Christmas rush silly driving has started as soon as the advertising for Christmas started.

Some times I can see where the road rage comes from.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Christchurch drivers are the worlds worst. They think red lights are green and orange means go faster. I lived in Auckland for 4 years and while the traffic is chocka at least they are good drivers apart from the asians with their 'chinese full' licences.

Yup - good old cup week, plenty of our country friends in town spending up their fonterra payouts and not copeing well with the Moorhouse grand prix - by the way has anyone else observed that the price of cheese has gone through the roof lately??
