Well where should i begin,
Friday night was a terrribly early night for bed (11.30pm) knowing that i would need to wake up at the crack of dawn for my journey to Hamilton, It was a rather sleepless night filled with adrenilin and excitment with thoughts of being introduced for the first time to my Brand new baby.
I woke up at 3am saturday morning (This was not intended by any means) helplessly looking at the alarm clock which was set for 5.30am trying to force myself back to sleep knowing that the 3.5 hrs sleep i had was not going to be enough for my escapade to be enjoyably achieved. So i lay there thinking "you need to sleep, you need to sleep", As per normal this did not happen arrrgghhhh
finally after 2.5hrs of starring at the alarm clock it was time to rise, I had a shower and breakie geared up leaving the house to fire up my cbr250rr for the very last time (It was an emotional moment) As i quitely applogised to the cbr for not showing the commitment it had shown me up untill now, together we rode off up the street to endevour on our journey to Hamilton.
It was a cool crisp bright morning (The type of weather any biker would pray for) as i set down the southern motorway on ramp only to see around the bend a police check point! (The usual breath check). I was directed to pull over removed my helmet and proceeded to talk into analizer "All clear the officer says Have a nice day" as i pulled away yelling out thank you to the officer through my muffled helmet with a large grin knowing that i had avoided being another statistic, Cbr and i continued down the southern motorway for what seemed was going to be fantastic day to ride!!.
All was going great untill i got past the off ramp (where you head to coromandel) when suddenly from nowhere a thick heavy mist blinded us all, making the only thing visible for me, the two tail lights of the car infront, i could slowly watch as my visor froze up and my body temperature dropped to what felt like -2 degrees (Why did i take the damn thermals out of my gear!!).
It was freezing and i was shivering as i focused on the two tail lights infront of me (He could have directed me off a cliff and i would have followed) that was the extent of poor visibility.
travelling at 60km/h down the highway with the cages was not fun at all, And as we continued i prayed that this menace the mist was creating would quickly disperce, Typically with my unfortunate luck it stayed with us till Huntly.
Huntly reached, Sun comes blazing out and as i feel my body defrosting and my visor clearing i knew my destination was not far from being reached. Finally arrived in Hamilton to find some left over loose gravel from what appeared to be some major road reconstruction, As i carefully went around and avoided all gravel (Previous experience!!) i pulled in to Waikato Yamaha only to find i was 45mins early for my meeting with Dave Edgar (Yamaha salesman). Now as the store was closed due the the work function of the boys at waikato yamaha (They got a track day for christmas), I sat in the car park peeking through the small window looking for my new baby, Couldn't see it and the novelty was running out quite quickly as i was cold/tired and bored.
Not far across the way i see the golden arches of McDonalds, Could this be my saviour from Hypothermia?? I quickly ran in to obtain COFFEE!!! and as i felt my body comming back to life with every sip my endorphin levels were at an all time high. Shortly after Dave rocks up on a bright yellow yamaha, We shake hands he unlocks the building i sign one piece of paper and suddenly this Beautiful blue creature comes rolling through the door, My face dropped my heart pounded this machine was something i had only dreamed about and now it was a reality, I was speechless it had the curves of Beyonce and the finess of Versace and was called the 2007 Yamaha YZF-R6.
After a quick no how from dave i was handed the key followed by a final handshake, shortly after i found myself standing alone in the carpark with this beautiful beast sitting infront of me and a key in my hand. Should i dare i said to myself!! there was a moment of excitement and fear combined to one as i daringly put the key in the ignition and fired her up!! the sound was fantastic my heart melted for two or three minutes gazing at her as she warmed up. I hopped on the saddle feeling as though i perched on top of the world, click into gear and very very slowly proceeded to depart back to Auckland.
She was so sensitive every mm of throttle turn was an exhilerating experience, out on the highway she almost threw me off as i came to terms with the power difference from my cbr, it was a very smooth ride back to auckland not exceeding 10-12k/rmp in any gear as advised by Dave for the first 1000k's which i found to be more than enough at this point as this machine can out run my cbr in second gear. Stopped off in Waiuku to visit a friend as we both gazed at my beauti over a coffee.
Reached auckland after pissing around on some back streets at around 3.00pm yesterday and have not ridden her since, Rather i have been visually appreciating her all night and this morning.
It appears the weathers goods today so i'm off to try and tame the beast alittle more!!!
