for those who live in a cave.. the RC45, or Honda RVF750 was one of the best bikes every made (though their price tag was a bit too hefty) and now they are very valuable and sought after..

You'll have to excuse me, ive got to change my pants...

Last week I went to Ashburton Honda and looked at the two on display there... they're not for sale, but I'm sure with the right amount of arm twisting...

I'm not looking to buy one so it doesn't matter for me.

However, it's still at least $25k for a 13 year old 750 ccm...

You could buy a 750ccm Agusta for less. I've ridden neither and can make no comparison. But it's a lot of money.

According to wikipedia they made 118 hps in standard and up to 190 hps in full race trim

    No wonder

They were $50000 when new in NZ, $25k ain't bad... they're far from just a 13 year old 750cc bike.

Not sure what it would take to derestrict the engine. But without it it's weak as piss and would get owned buy any newish 600. Never liked the look either. Don't flame me, its just my view thats all.

i'm not too sure but i reckon an unrestricted RC45 would shame an agusta 750...

As far as I know, it's not so much a matter of derestricting the engine as buying the proper HRC version of the engine for another five-figure amount.
I remember a review in Two Wheels years ago when it first came out, that said that apart from handling, the road-going RC45 wasn't any better than the other Jap 750s of the day, until you spent $25K on the factory race engine.

As for the looks etc. - yeah, it's subjective. All in all, I'd rather have an RC46 that'd had some money spent on it. For less than half what that RC45 cost, you could have a very sweet RC46 with a Rotrex supercharger and 160hp on tap, that would be perfectly tractable and comfortable as an everyday commuter.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

A simple rewire modification to the PGM-FI box destricted the engine and increased power to 118hp...

I love to look of the swing arm and those Castrol colors look awesome, while the V4 howl is phwoooooorrrr!
    Great bike!

Ahhh, you butchers You're well missing the point. Surea GSXR600 will spank its little botty, and an F4 would too... big deal! Those are both regular production bikes, sure one is quite upmarket as far as bikes go, but that's not the point. The RC45 is a mix of typical Honda fit and finish, racing heritage spanning many moons, and hand made goodness (e.g. the hand welded alloy tank).

That red one is pretty ugly, the white with the black tail section... beautiful.
An RC46 with a Rotrex would still be an RC46 with a Rotrex... novel, but not much else... because lets face it, there's better ways to get 160bhp. The RC45 however, that'll always be a special bike... long after all the RC46s are in the skip.

Personally, I'd get an NC35 and spank crap out of it... visually they're the same (400 has better headlights admittedly).

They're a fucking great big tent in the front of my pants is what they are. Those things were the king.

A 13 year old icon of greatness that's only appreciating in value vs build number 639,905 of Suzuki's Chinese best ...... no contest.
