Exemption/dispensation granted!!!

Thanks to all that have been on here informing about the dispensation system to be allowed to ride a bigger bike.

Here the info to help the next one who thinks about this:

My oldest, who is 18, got his one this morning. So he is now legal.

The dispensation is for:
Riding to and from work night time.
He is allowed to ride 45 minutes after his shift has ended and he must ride the most direct way.
He must keep a log book that is signed by his supervisor for each ride in advance.

Riding a 400cc bike
He has a dispensation for a specific NV400 and the rego # is also included in the dispensation.

Other conditions:
He only has the dispensation until 3 weeks after he is allowed to sit his full license.
Can be withdrawn if he gets in to trouble.

Reason he applied for an exemption:
He is 6f3 (almost) and weighs 90Kg. The 250cc's tend to be too small for him. He had been riding some of them. But not really comfy. And I had this 400 that I was giving him so...

What we ended up doing:
- Filled in a form that is available from AA
- Included a photo of him on a GN250. (Helmet on...)
- Included a photo of him on the NV400 (Helmet on...)
- Got a letter from someone who knows him and has followed his riding through the years. (Family friend...)
- Wrote a letter to LTNZ explaining why he wanted an exemption also informing about his experience on bikes. This letter was attached to the application. (We did not add anything here, but how would they know??)
- Asked for two exemptions (on same form so only one fee of $20) 1. Allow him to ride to and from work night time. 2. Allow him to use the NV400.

2 years ago he was on his learners and got caught on a bike w/o Rego (not in system!!) and obviously no WOF $600 fine. We told them about this in the form, but did not stop the exemption.

We applied after he had (at last!!) got his restricted (Thanks Stickchick!!)

So as long as you present a valid case you can get it sorted. The lady we dealt with at LTNZ was very helpful and we have corresponded with her over email. The support letter and the photo of him on the 400 was also sent by email to her. All up this took us about 4 weeks. The photo of him on the 400 and the support letter was requested by them after we had put in the application.

Again, thanks to all that have provided info on here so that we knew what to do. And once again: Thanks to Stickchick for lending a stranger her bike!!

the exemption team is about 4 people. They are really easy to work with and its not hard as long as you have a good case to put forward. see my threads on the same.

Dude, there is no need for thanks I was pleased to help. Congrats on the exemption though as your lad is a tall boy

I will visiting the HB again so tell him I still expect that drink

Hi gal. He is expecting you. And yes, there is a need for the thanks. For you to lend your bike to a stranger, you should realise that it is not what everyone would do.
