On the note on Spark arrestors. I have no idea whether my bike is fitted with one or not (Only had the bike a couple of weeks so I'm a bit of a newbie to MX). It is the stock KTM EXC muffler but I can't find any info stamped on it anywhere.
I don't really want to turn up and find I can't ride so is there any way I can check without pulling apart a perfectly good muffler? or is there some way of rigging up a temporary solution to satisfy the authorities?

El Scooto was scratching his head till yesterday evening as well about where to get some mesh from to make a temporary spark arrestor. Got to the $2 shop or the Warehouse and get yourself a large food sieve (see pic). Make sure it has steel mesh not alloy. Then go of to your local hardware store and get a jubilee clamp (screw up type hose clamp) that will fit over your exhaust can. Cut said mesh out of plastic frame, bend to shape (want it like a cone pointing backwards from the can) and clamp onto can and ya done

Stick a welding rod up the muffler.
    How far will it go?

The exit has a about 90 degree bend downwards(it enters the end of the muffler at about 45 degrees) so I don't think the welding rod would go very far... pics attached(hopefully)

Well it started to go up inside, then there was this blinding flash and wouldn't go any further. Couldn't pull it out either and the welder which was attached to the only welding rod I could find was making loud buzzing/humming noises....

ok, I made that shit up

    That's fine.
The field test for a spark arrestor is to poke a stick or welding rod up the muffler. If it don't go all the way to the end, you pass.

It is my understanding that modern, factory stock standard, non modified m/bike mufflers will have spark arrestor built in.

Yes this is correct. I spoke to John and he said the same thing. Stock standard road adventure bikes will have the arrestors in them.

Tyres. I am riding with brand new TKC80s or MT21, haven't decided as yet. I have both sets ready to put on next week.

OK so I'll try and get some wheels and knobblies sorted, but the bike currentlly has Pirelli MT60s front and rear, so if i cant sort the wheels in time are these going to do the job? or am I just asking for trouble....?

And round we go again. Sorry dude this has been done to death. Organiser is recommending (strongly suggesting) Continental TKC80's, MT21's, D606 or similar.

Indeed a subject well done before chap, Trust me on that one........... (Hides head in shame)

A good priced set of tyres can be obtained from http://www.lmsimports.co.nz/products.php?cat=2

The E-09's are about $260 inc freight for the pair so pretty affordable and they last about 4-5000km mixed road/gravel.

Tell Rob at LMS that Duncan from Tokoroa sent you and he will get them to you quick smart!

    Not just asking...
You're jumping up and down shouting "Pick me! pick me!".

Dry conditions no problem but not in the wet unless you're really good.

OK sorry, point taken. I was just trying to establish whether I actually had a backup plan(ie using what I've got at present) or whether I should give the hurry along to the guy supplying my hubs for my other set of wheels.
