Hmmm SP1, might be a bit different to the NC30. Nice bike, and a good size if you're not a big person.

I've had my bike licence for 29 years, started off on a 125, have ridden most engine configurations to 900cc, but the 500 is the biggest capacity bike I've owned.

Always been a bit scared of those extra maintenance (especially tyres)costs, higher insurance etc.

    Hope it all goes well.

Both!! One of the reasons I like the GS is because it's compact, much in the modern sports bike way. Getting on a bit for clip ons though.

Besides there's something a bit surreal about seeing someone tall or a bit portly settling themselves into/onto a sportsbike. Must be bloody uncomfortable.

    Enjoy the SP. Cheers, Paul.

    I had 2x 250, and now 2 x 600

Don't be too worried about up sizing to a litre - the difference in required skill to stay safe doesn't change much... but if you REALLY want to learn how to kick butt of smart arse guys, be quite familiar with wringing every last bit of performance out of the NC30 before giving it the flick.
Many people seem to upgrade to more cc's so they think they can go faster, but what it seems to do is make them more lazy - they go slower in the corners because they can go a bit faster on the straights. I stayed on the ZXR250 for a couple of years even tho I had my full and it made me a much quicker rider because I couldn't rely on the engine to do all the catch up work when chasing bigger bikes. MR and Two smoker are good examples of having to make up for small CC's with better cornering skill.

So upgrade if you want to, but remember you will almost certainly get a bit lazier on the corners so make sure you're quite certain the NC30 isn't enough anymore if you want to make the most of a bigger bike. (does that make any sense at all?)

Rode a GZ250 for 4 months decided it wasn't any good at anything and bought a YZF600R Thundercat from Mt Eden awesome bike but found it a little heavy, rode it for 18 months and then inherited Chris' R1 when the 04 R1 arrived. Like the R1 as its a little lighter to move around.

    Nah. Beer guts are sexy...

Go for the SP1. A very tasty bike.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Well there are other pipes that sound good too.
And then the poorer among us have to make do with modified stock pipes.

I was sitting having a coffee a little while ago, and this bike came thundering down the road. I didn't recognise the sound, but when it went past I recognised the SP-ness of it. Dunno what pipes it had, but it sounded a bit flat.

I’ve gone up the scales & down them again, I always figured I would get more out of learning to ride a smaller bike first. Well, not practising what I preach the RD350 (with 250 stickers) was too much for me & although it never bit me, it tried. The GSX250 I bought to get a licence taught me way more. Later after getting a 750 (after a couple of 500/550s) I also bought a 250 to comute on & had more fun on that dick’n around.

Much later after more 550 & 1000 I bought a RG50 as a roadbike & loved it (rode it to the cold kiwi 6 times!) but had a bigger bike too.

I thoroughly suggest owning as many bikes as you can possibly afford & anything else that catches your fancy + maybe one or two more.

What kind of dirtbike are you after?
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
