    MX/Enduro scene in NZ

    Howdi all

    Intend to return to the land of Manuka Honey in the next 8 years or so (ok, long way off yet...) but want to put the feelers out with regards to the current price of MX/Enduro bikes in NZ. I currently ride a WR450F and mostly greenlane/race enduro + MX when funds allow although the suspension is a little inadequate I've found for big air fun. Have only been at the game for 2yrs and am still novice (think it's me age and preservation overide that won't allow me to advance to inters ). Hoping to purchase an '07 RMZ250 next March to enable 'bigger air' etc and get back to using a clutch (the WR has a rekluse fitted).

    I also do track days on a GSXR70 K3 and use it as a commuter tool but thats by the by.

    My questions are as thus:

    Current new prices for MX bikes at the moment in NZ dollars (want to offset this against shipping newish machines back home when the time comes).

    Current MX/Enduro situation with regards to how much support there is for the sport nationwide i.e. is there a national body(s) of representation for the sport and if so how successful are they in ensuring the sport will continue regardless of how many 'tree/bunny huggers' protest otherwise.

    And finally, is CICA (Combined Insurance Co of America) active in NZ (have been very useful so far with all my injury claims in the UK).

    Any points of view appreciated.

    But hey, best go to www.trademe.co.nz and check out the prices.
    What is the riding like over there? any good organised trail rides or places to ride. What are the rates for these places?

    Less of the dead morbidity pleassssssssssse....

    Will check out 'trademe' later. The initiative behind pricing for bikes now in NZ was that usually one can decipher a price (much) later on accommodating inflation at 3% p.a., at least over here anyways.

    Riding over here is to quote a kiwi phrase, awesome. For the best national practise tracks we only pay £30 which is peanuts. These are the tracks that are ridden for international competiton and are maintained superbly no matter what. Loads of trail riding organisations up an down the country and some unbelievable trails/scenery that is hard to beat - when I mean unbelievable, I'm talking 'original' Roman roads, history coming out of your ears and you get to ride your off road machines on these trails. NZ off road is, of course, just as good but you don't get the same element of history associated with the ride - hard to describe unless you're over here.

    Snow is the norm during winter and the northern counties are not for the faint hearted although the groups that go out are well adjusted individuals so no drama (if ya like frozen extremeties!).

    Alot of the riding during summer is done with Motards, hence no knobblie tyres, just road bias tyres, which is loadsa fun, especially in the wet.

    For sure, when I finally leave these shores, I know I'll be hankering to be back riding this ancient Island but then I think, I'm gonna settle, with luck, in Whitianga, so maybe the emphasis on fretting for the northern hemisphere will wane somewhat

    ok i just brought a 08 rmz250 and rrp(recomended retail price) is NZ dollars $9,995.

    If your working in New Zealand and pay taxes, ACC (Accident Compensation) will cover 80% of your weekly wages.
    motorcycling is covered. (i should know) claimed a few times.

    Thanks BuddyL for your responses. $10k is on par with new bikes in the UK at the moment so no surprises there.

    I have old knowledge of ACC back home which has always been woefully inadequate IMO. CICA covers so much more but is pricey per annum however, if one particpates in high octane sports, then one must accommodate the risks etc. I find that my claims each year normally more than cover the premiums : (

    COmbined insurance is in NZ, i have it, they have paid me out over 10,000 in the 7 years i have had it, it goes well on top of ACC, i think annual premiums are about $380 for the base package,

    250F's are around $10k to 11k depending on brand, good second hand ones start at $7500 for one year old ones.

    KLX450's are 10500 new, WR450 about $11500,

    How can you call Wirral Off Road events good? Riding round a 5 mile muddy field all day yeah great fun and that’s £40 that’s $109. I race clubman class and have gone to many events around the uk including the dawn till dusk and there are events in NZ I cant wait to enter and be a part of.

    You pay around $50 in nz for a 50 mile loop and as far as our green lanes are concerned there getting shut down, so soon there will be nowhere to ride at all over here. As for history there is quite a lot of history in NZ especially on the old gold miner’s routes.
    I’m sorry if this sound harsh but the UK off road scene is nothing compared to NZ and the people in the events here are miserable and don’t talk to you most of the people I have come across here on the NZ forums have been nothing but helpful and supportive.
    I am welsh but I tell you one thing when I race all events abroad in the future I will be flying the NZ Flag and cant wait to be part of there country and the off road Scene.

    Ill there around Jan next year.

    To answer one of you other questions yes combined is in nz as about 5 years ago I had an accident over there while backpacking and they paid out in about 2 weeks once I sent them the paper work hope this is of help.

    Great bunch of lads (doing a track day next friday at Pineham near Milton Keynes if you're keen). They start most of there rides from Luton. Nothing better than a group of 20 riders burning up the English countryside!!!

    Thanks for the invite, may join the GLC for a blat soon. At the mo I'm riding with the Essex chapter of the TRF and we did a good session with 9 riders two weeks ago starting from Ongar. The lanes were in good order as they have graded quite a few. Was at TonyMotos yesterday riding a permafrost track so was interestin till it thawed somewhat, hehe.

    And to the Welsh chap - yes our off road pursuits are becoming more restricted but there's still plenty of countryside to ride, just be prepared to travel. Still loads of enduro clubs to be joined to race each year ditto to the mx tracks. Don't know about the Wirral thing but you could always go to Tom's farm which is probably more like a 500 mile muddy track.
