    New SV650K7

Well, after a year or so of riding the trusty CB250u to and from work and around town I finally picked up my brand new SV650K7 last week and have to say I love it.

Being obsessive about my research I read everything I could about mid size naked bikes and eventually decided on the SV (everything being a compromise in one way or another). Was gutted when the one in store got sold and when new stock came in slapped a deposit down.

Am still breaking the engine in but it is freeing up and the sound is intoxicating (even with the quiet factory pipe) and plenty of go for me. Only 300 kms on as work etc keeps intruding on riding time - know that riding it to work tomorrow will get me there with a smile on my face.

By the way, is there anyone with an SV650 that has installed/had installed a Yoshi pipe?

I installed a full Yoshi system on Gassit Girl's K5 SV650S when she had it. Got it in from US. PM me and I can give you my contact's details

It depends, you get the NAME with Yoshi but if you want a fatter sound I suggest Two Brothers. Scorpion cans also sound mint too!

Best thing to do for yourself is to hear a few SV's with the aftermarket cans attached to them and decide which is you like best.

I think that I'd just get a set of crash bungs fitted first off, and then ride the thing for a few more k's before worrying about a replacement pipe. You could always go the slip on route if you're just looking for a few more decibels.

I'm looking at a double bubble screen, and perhaps some suspension work.

One of the first things I did was to install (with a bit of help) motosliders frame sliders and swingarm sliders - ordered them from the states - the guys on one of the SV websites swear by them. Not cheap but figure will pay me back tenfold if the bike ever gets laid down.

Reason why I was thinking Yoshi is the local shop recommends them and has the knowhow and equipment to tune properly without a power commander (or so they say)...

Have been listening to various SV pipes on youtube and the "Devil"? one sounds the best if sound is all that matters (obviously there is a bit more to it though...)

Nice bro, installing some crash bungs is probably one of the first thing I am gonna do when I get myself a bike.

Of course, if you buy brand new and it's insured then if it gets damaged just get it written off and get a brand new one.

    Whatever works bro!

And the thing with your pipes, youtube don't do it justice aye, I know you're probably busy and stuff but do go out there and hear the difference.

btw: you got some pictures with the SV's with crash sliders?

The best bet is to fit a Power Commander and have it custom mapped. Gary Pendleton did the map for Gassit Girl's SV, made a huge difference

Couldn't agree more. I low sided mine on the Akaroa road on a slowish corner and bent the radiator up pretty bad. Got some R&G crash bobbins after that while visiting the UK. They're nice and rugged. I think the Oggy Knobs are probably easier to get and a bit cheaper here in NZ.

As for a can, I've fitted one of those locally made "Zorsts" brand cans and love it. It's probably a tad loud but I made up a baffle that I stick whenever I take it for a WOF. Sounds awesome, especially on the over run. Got it remapped and it's definitely got better low and mid range although the top feels unchanged. Haven't had it dynoed so don't know for sure. One thing's for sure, you've gotta release that beautiful sound! I reckon a Yoshi is a tad over priced, but if you like it then get it. I've heard a few different can on SV's and they all sound cool!

as an ex SV650 owner, my opinion is that the suspension work is the best money you will spend on that bike. Start with the forks (emulators, springs, oil) and replace the shock also. budget on $2500 to $3000 though.

My SV650S has a Two Brothers aluminium exhaust and is embarrassingly loud at times. I still get a thrill going through tunnels

    Edit: Definitely get crash bungs
