These are grim tidings indeed. Apparently one of the injured has passed on as well. 3 dead - 1 has been flown to Chch.

    RIP.

LATEST: Three motorcyclists, two males and a female, are dead after a crash between a campervan and a group of motorcycles on a straight section of State Highway 79 about 10km from Fairlie in South Canterbury.

Details of the crash early this afternoon are still sketchy but weather does not appear to have been a factor.

A fourth person, a female, has been flown to Christchurch with critical injuries.

The occupants of the campervan were not injured and are believed to be European tourists.

Police spokesman Inspector Stuart Leighton said roadblocks had been put in place around the crash site.

Rest in peace to the three riders who passed away today.

Some riding mates of mine call it "killing season".

Not nice, but unfortunately it seems to be true. They said it's been like this for at least the past thirty years.
