Safe travelling Artifice - hope you have a great trip.

    Some of my favourite roads:

Paraparas (Wanganui-National Park), also National Park to Eight Mile Junction (near Te Kuiti). Awakino Gorge (New Plymouth to Te Kuiti). Gisborne to Opotiki - either round East Cape (watch out for wandering stock!) or through the Waioeka Gorge.

And a whole lot of Wairarapa back roads.

Vinegar Hill from Feilding north through Cheltenham to SH1 is a great ride. So too is the "surf highway" coast road around Taranaki, not to mention the run up the coast from New Plymouth to Mokau, before taking on the Awakino Gorge referred to in Lynda's post!

last time i rode north i went from wellington up the east coast rimutakas to napier and it was raining cats and dogs the whole way. next day it was through gisbourne around the outside of the east cape to mt maunganui it only rained cats and dogs for half a day . but a nice policeman gave me a nice ticket outside whakatane unfortunately i didnt win the lottery and the entrance fee is so high i dont care to buy any more. after a nice stay in a turangi backpackers i went around the outside of the coromandel where it was lovely wheather apart from all the slips and the roadworks were still a few weeks off sealing it ending up in orkville staying with my brother Bart. exitied auckland through helensville to wellsford and up to russell to stay with me mum. from there it was numerous trips all over the show, aint the north grand.

This time im thinking of going through wanganui and haawera. soo many roads so little time . my bike tends to be 50km feetsleepsyndrome so im kinda limited to 2000km/day lol

For something a little different after New Plym instead of Raglan which is Auckland yuppie hell, pop into Kawhia which is a lovely little backwater with very little to do but go to the pub then pop off for a hot pool on the beach. 2nd campground is good if extremely spartan.

If you get higher past Auckers the Kauri forest is a must do as well as the road into Kiataia is like a rollercoaster. When in Kiataia you obviously have to ride up 90mile beach & stop for a picnic half way.

There is a shallow stream near the end that takes you to the tip of the country. I did this 2up on a whale of an 1100 so easy to navigate, you won't get stuck, well unless you stop & do burnouts.

    Magic!

eeerrr we might have met already ?? Im sorta from russell as well.
Yourv got to do the forest road. Yourv probably already done the opononi road which was all good last time I looked. Just be aware that even tho its starting to get warmer there are patches that dont see much sun and you end up with lovely wet green slime. Possibly a whangas or other nothlander KB'r has been thru there recently and can vouch for road conditions ?
