I have a plan - coming down from Auckland on friday night in the Pajero, getting to Opunake around midnight.Saturday morning down to Hawera to pick up some bike parts, then up to NP for the racing...back to Opunake for the night, then heading for home on sunday, taking all the interesting roads I normaly do on a bike, was going to be a good weekend.

Um...unfortunatly I told no one else about my plan - apparently I agreed to go to a show on saturday night(??),the wife has already payed for the $70 ticket...friday night is Guy Fawkes, the kids are looking forward to watching my antics lighting fuses, the older kids have invited friends,it's going to be a big evening.

But hey - it's OK,I can go if I bloody well like, don't let your family get in the way.....

    Racing starts at 2.00pm.

There's also a big bike show in conjunction with the racing - the racing's at Pukekura Raceway (the horse racing track) and the show's at the Trustbank Centre (which is I think somewhere in the middle of town?

That's odd. When I spoke to MNZ a few months ago, they said the show & long track were being co-located. There's no mention on the flyers I've seen.

Long track is motorcycle speedway racing on a long track instead of the usual short oval, usually on cinders or the like. It's the final round of the World Long Track Speedway Motorcycle Championship, right here in little ol' NZ.

The Bike show is next to the Race Track in the TSB stadium so you don't have to walk far . SENSEI

Weather report for up here is gorgeous today & slightly cloudy Friday & Saturday (all the way down to New Plymouth too ). I'm really looking forward to the ride down.

Seems I haven't been on the bike in over a month due to various events (Phillip Island, furniture removal Labour Weekend, etc) and it was a close call yesterday whether to call in sick :sneaky2: or not. I did the good thing & came to work, luckily, as one of the other guys had beat me to it!

Small group of us heading up on Friday late in afternoon, staying at Taranaki Adventure Lodge - short walk to town, stagger back.
Some of the group have pulled out so we have a couple of spare beds if anyone is looking for place to stay.
Will be first time on proper bike for long time as last ride was to Gisborne on mighty CT110 for wine & food festival, hope the ZX6 still goes.

Long track - a more serious form of speedway. Bikes are very similar to speedway solos but have (may have) rear suspension, two speed gearboxes (start and race) and often small handlebar fairings to keep the dirt from knocking the rider off. Speeds are much higher, usually run on trotting tracks, a lot bigger than the (up to) 1/4 mile speedways.
Very big in Europe, especially Germany, but not so well known elsewhere.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

    .

I'm riding up after work today, hope to leave around 3.30/3.45pm - Hamish will be leaving a bit later. Looks like it's going to be a bit of a drizzly ride. Doug: might see you guys on the road perhaps?

Our motel's right in town. Re-cycled is staying with us Saturday night.

We'll be heading to the show tomorrow morning, will be wearing my KB t-shirt (or sweatshirt if it's cooler) so if you see me come and say "hi".

I'll be wearing a red Ducati cap and hopefully I'll need my Ducati sunnies. I'll have my little blue Fila shoulder bag with Ducati badges over it. I won't be wearing my red Ducati jacket as we're travelling by bike and Hamish has already weeded out what he considers is "unneccessary crap for two nights away". I have managed to sneak the makeup and hairdryer back in the panniers.

Sparky Bills - I'll come and say "hi" and drool.

We've got grandstand seats, can't remember the number and they're packed away.

    Weehhhaaarrr, it'll be a great w/end!!!

Sensei: I've noted your phone number in case Ducati # 2 breaks down......

Excellent. Only 3.5hrs left of work today. I finish at 11am and have a "free" half day off (ie without actually having to touch my annual leave balance) but don't have to leave until 2pm. Check the bike, oil, pressures, etc, pack, load, dress & leave. Oops. Better not forget to leave food out for the cat & water the plants too.

I'm really looking forward to this afternoon. I think it's been a month since I was last on the bike, and I've been hanging out a bit for it. Hope the battery's not flat!

I'll look out for the Beemer on the way down CRF. Don't be surprised by a black & white clad rider on a CBR6 waving at you.
