Again - riding like that has no business on the open road. Its clever and fun I'm sure. I know that I cannot do them. I like watching them - but if I saw you doing them on the road at that speed I'd *555 your ass because I'd think you were being a fucken idiot - and the more of your types off the road the better.

Personally, I regard wheelies on the road as the sign of a wanker - sort of the motorcycle equivalent of beating y' meat in public whilst shouting "Isn't it big!".

But, to each his own, and if that's what rocks y'boat and y'ain't endangering me, go for it.

But...... Article 3 of the Biker Code is quite clear about snitching

Don't snitch. If you see a wrong, fight it yourself, if you are about anything. You'll take care of problems yourself and never feel the need to snitch someone off. Snitches are the lowest life forms on earth, right down there with bike thieves.

Hopefully I made it clear in my last post - but in short whilst the rider with the "skillz" and his club of fanbois think its all safe and OK. Some of us on the road (like me - being a newb) actually get scared when its done to us (They obv dont think Im a learner because I ride a larger bike - assuming that they would not do it do a gn250 rider etc).

Like a lot of newbs Im out there doing my hours, learning lines, etc etc and the "antics" that some other riders pull on us pull are not welcome by all.

Shit - if you want to do it - do it where there are NO other cars / bikers - that way they are not imposing their behaviour on others.

Some would argue that a noob on an 800cc motorbike would make them feel unsafe when riding with that noob to, no kind of dispensation is going to give you any more ability than any other noob....
Its real easy to criticise others, but as a noob believe me the only thing you should worry about is yourself. Dont go wasting your time stressing about others, that is solely there job!

re - the 800 - you raise a very fair point. Its a cruiser - not a sports bike so Im not exactly flying, but your point is valid. To this end I only ride with people I know and if anyone said that they didnt want to ride with a newb on a bike like that I could understand it.

There have been a number of rides where I could have gone on and chose not to because I also appreciate that just because I have the bike - I know I dont have the skills for group riding etc and I dont want to be the guy who causes the accident.

What I was trying to say (and obv was putting it badly) is that when you are on the road pulling wheelies etc etc and doing it around other riders is try to respect them as well - some dont appreciate it (actually thats what started this whole thread). Now thats a fair comment right?

If your doing it in your own group and nobody else is around - then OK - you all accept the risk / impacts if anything goes wrong - thats your choice, and there are no nana's like me around to bitch and moan about it.

As a newb it kinda hard NOT to worry about it when you see that in your wing mirrors.

Anyway - Ive said my bit - we can either agree or not - it dosnt really matter - this is the interweb and its doing to change anything.

I apologised at the time and I apologise again for my initial post being in the "wrong" thread. The tradegies of what happened in Geraldine were reflected in my head when I thought of the danger I was unwittingly caught up in whilst out in the Wairarapa. Perhaps normally I would'nt have mentioned it, but the two events lit a fuse if you like. Drew did right by bringing it over to R&R even if he did spit his dummy and call me a hypocrite.

The issue being discussed is a valid one, even if it has been raised before.
KB is a public forum. We are talking about riding style and what is considered safe and/or appropriate on public roads.

I find it interesting to see what "camp" people sit in regarding road craft and consideration for other road users (including bikers) from what they say on here. I'd wage none of us are squeeky clean, but it does become more and more apparent that some peoples' priorities are not always in the right place and it will take many many more tragedies before sense is even started to be seen.

Is it any wonder that bikes and bikers are seen as dangerous.

None of us want a nanny state. We all enjoy our motorcycling whether it's road riding, racing, touring, stunting or even bloody commuting but I feel there is a time and place for everything.

Yep! maybe finger-pointing and snitching are indeed against biker camaraderie, but I dont believe there is a valid point in insisting that if popping wheelies on a public road close to or alongside other riders is done by a skilled expert with ultimate control then that makes it OK.

Its funny how people who can do things others cant...and can't comprehend...or even know what the in's and outs are..because they havn't been there or done that...class others as idiots...
I always giggle when sitting in someones car and there are hooning along a local road they think they know well...having a play through the corners...and then occasionally someone willpass them and hoon off faster,smoother than them...almost always..you hear...'fucking idiot'

they arn't a idiot!!!! you have no idea how much skill and intelligence it takes to drive/ride fast...the faster you go,the faster your brain has to work...the better your hand eye co-ordination has to be...let alone do wheelies...acusing these people of being idiots or crazy is just ignorance more so that anything... especially as your a new rider...these stunts or what ever you may call them..may look dangerous to you...and others that can not do them...but realistically...you really can not make that judgment...I'm not try to make a cunt of you or anything...or trying to make you like drew or respect his abilities...but just maybe take a step back...and try to realise that making a call on the safety of this senario or judgement on it...you really don't know???

And before you get stuck into me...because its well know I'm no saint on a motorbike...in my experience as I believe I'm a relitivly experienced rider...its not usually fast riders acting the goat that fall off on the road...its the average to low skilled riders that seem to park there bikes in ditch's etc..and when they're riding...regularly seeing there upper bodys/heads hanging over the middle white line around corners...that sort of thing gives me the shits!! and I see it far to much for my liking!!

Drew .et al...90% of the time only ride with extremly experienced riders...in a group that trust each other explicitly!! I used to regularly ride with this group while I lived down there...really good buch to have a few beers with...and dispite your opinions...they'll still have a yarn and a ber with you anytime your down that way...
