Feel free if it's convenient. I'd love to get photos of them to put up here if they are found guilty. And yeah. A KB get together in court crossed my mind as helping make it 'real' for these guys. I did put that to the detective and she said it would be OK as long as we behaved. Attendance would only be worth contemplating though if we were to get an actual hearing time rather than just some time on a particular day. We'll see what happens.

Judging by my random sampling of the people I observed at the District Court, the legal system is largely ineffective for all but the 'accidental offenders' (first-timers, who are mortified at being on the wrong side of the law, and never re-offend, whether there are any punishments meted out or not). For serial offenders, any sanctions meted out (by the courts, or elsewhere) are viewed as either trifling inconveniences (as they have calloused consciences), or grossly unfair (because they see themselves as innocent, or more commonly, as being picked on by the cops/courts/society/life the universe and everything). Personal responsibility goes no further than accepting they were dumb being caught, rather than accepting they were wrong in what they did.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...

Confident the aprilia rsv4, IS the one
Oakie and Mrs Oakie I sincerely hope that these idiots get far more than a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.
Its unfortunate that our justice system in more focused on the needs of the offenders than the needs of the victims, in my opinion it should be that items to the value can be recovered from the thieves buy insurance companies and sold to recover the money it cost not only in the replacement of the items but also admin costs etc, this would hopefully make some of these idiots realise that there is a real financial cost.
Alas it wont happen while we have the system we have.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Mrs Oakie here, thanks everyone for your support over the last few months. I was surprised that I felt so violated when it happened. Some of the the postings have really made me laugh and others have given me the warm fuzzies. Even though we haven't met it feels like I am in a very supportive family. Thanks guys and gals! By the way these guys may be getting a wee stay on the Queen too. They have been very naughty boys apparently.![]()
Grow older but never grow up
Funny. I've had more than one lot of feedback suggesting they should get their hands removed. When I did the draft of the Victim Impact Report, bearing in mind that I thought it would be really cool to make everyone in court laugh at these two, I finished it up with a paragraph something like this:
"In Muslim countries such acts may be punished by the removal of the right hand. I would go along with this but suspect that in this case it may be too severe a punishment as it would probably remove from these two young men their only source of sexual gratification"
Cool huh? Mrs Oakie said I couldn't have that read in court though and as she was the primary victim I had to obey her wishes.
