Northland roads update - Whangaroa to Matauri Bay (December 2007)

Lots of patches of new seal - mostly on the corners and all covered in small loose gravel - They're not all signposted so care needed - especially on some of the tightest bends - ride safe

    Hey There,

    WELCOME FELLOW BOI'er!!!

Always good to hear from some more norfland riders

sweet ride ya got there !!!

I agree don't ride through here at the moment its still really shitty, which is sad cause it can be quite a good little section when the roads are good.

    Keep it on the Highway
I ask for nothing but to ride where ever the road calls

Sorry for the repost However with the summer coming there may be a few more bikers out around this loop......

    Update :

There has been alot of Roadworks lately between China Clays and Kauri Cliffs and there is a lot of loose metal and dirt on the road surface, also the loop is still pretty shitty with uneven surfaces and missing seal. keep your eyes peeled if ya expecting to put the "knee down" around this Loop

Hi guys, sorry for hijacking this thread with another question relating to Northland.

I've done the wellington to Invercargill trip by bike over 5 days which was really cool.

I was wondering about the Northland region to the Cape. Travelling from Wellie to the Cape over 5 days or so. Is the Northland region offering plenty of options regarding roads. I'd be wanting to do this in about April-May next year.

Have not spend a lot of time north of Auckland hence the question.

    Any advice welcome

    Agreed. Roads absolutely shocking.

Oh and watch out for the rural postman who likes to drive on the wrong side of the road just to get to the next driveway.

Lots n lots of shite roadworks going on on No1 Kawakawa area. On the sh12 thru Waipoua forest a couple of days back and thats pretty shabby ,but still enjoyable ,Watch those potholes.
Coast road from Russell to Whakapara sounds like the Matauri loop....lots of gravel sprinkled on top of tarseal.
Going to end up with Five politicians in parliment this election ,Hopefully some money is spent up here on roading ay!
