On-bike filming

I've been trying to do some on bike filming and just thought I'd share my experiences and see if anyone had some other ideas...

I priced a DVD qaulity system but since it was $1800 I bought the Oregen Scientific ATC2K for $220 just to give it a try.

The camera is pretty crappy, but that doesnt matter because getting a decent mount is really half the battle.

I have mounted on my boot, a bar poking out the side of the rear subframe and hanging off the muffler.

I have found the bar mount has been best so far, but because it is at the rear of the bike it has to poke out a long way to get a decent view forwards, this is worrying as it can wack into things if you forget it is there. I cut my bar in half and put it back together with a plastic rod so that it will snap off rather than bend my rear subframe and/ or throw me off if it hits anything "im-movable"

Vibrations are still a problem.

I really think the helmet is going to be the best place to isolate the camera from vibration but I havent figured out how to mount to a helmet.

Mounting on the boot is rubbish since you cant aim the camera.

Anybody else tried to do this sort of thing?

The best thing about this project is its an excuse to go out and ride to winding roads, the worst thing about it is that I have realised what a pussy ass rider I am!!!

Must be conditioned by watching SBK/MOTOGP

Go visit a skydiving club - all their camera guys have helmet cameras, (shut up beavis).

I saw one years ago but can't remember how it was attached, apart from the fact that it was on the side of the head (you too butthead).

Of course it wasn't a motobike lid, but was pretty similar.

the oregon is shit for skydiving - doesn't like the rapid pressure changes. i don't think they like vibration either.

most guys have high def sony or panasonic - onto tape, not DVD.

Transalper does this sort of thing. He's got the camera mounted on his helmet and the recorder in a back pack. No idea on qulaity or what he uses.
