Gotta agree with this sentiment...they do say that we dispise most that which we recognise in ourselves. Still waiting to hear news that an ex of mine has come out the closet...very very anti gay (gay guys only, mind - am yet to meet a guy that has an issue with girl on girl action) and he was super jumpy if I tried to get friendly with his bum....and by friendly I mean just patting it not trying to pop a digit or anything. He was very much an anal retentive!

I hope kiwifruit doesn't see this thread. He's the most homophobic queer I've ever... er, met.

    Who's they?
So Islamics recognise that in reality Christianity is the true religion and thus they despise them. I think you may have a little trouble proving that one.
The poor despise the wealthy (well many do) because they are secretly wealthy poor people?
    The list goes on.

Perhaps your ex had a bad experience as an altar boy?

Its got nothing to do with proving anything

Number One said "that which we recognise in OURSELVES". I don't think Number One mentioned "that which we recognise in the GROUPS we are part of " The group may despise (i.e., one religion over another) but an individual within that group secretly may not because they are only conforming anyway

But Tom, you told Mumbles and I that you liked to listen?

As far as I'm concerned, go the gays. It leaves more women for the rest of us.

If you have to ask you either a chick or gay.

Could it be that it might be as simple as the fear of being seen as different?

In a society where the sense of "belonging" is drilled into us from an early age, being placed in categories that identifies us from sex, to economic class, right down to work capabilities, even ethics and morals and the ever so arguable matter of religion...

We are told we need to belong in a straight forward description that other people can easily identify...to be accepted within society's rules, you need a "permissible" sticker on your forehead...

Being gay is becoming more and more acceptable, but people still have a long way to go, even though it is something that has existed for centuries:
the romans were very openly into polygamy as well as same sex relationships,
    So were Egyptians...

I reckon that being Bi is actually the next frontier, as it blurs the limits even further...I reckon it is now less accepted than being actually gay. It would seem that everyone wants to know wether you're in or out. It all has to make sense and so needs to be black or white...

Rubbish. Your mum's a randy cow who's trying to convert them. The same way as most blokes dream of converting lesbians, preferably two at a time.

What is up with all the gay stuff on KB anyway??.... There seems to be a lot of it!!?!...

Is it cuz people want to understand etc?? or just a way to poke fun n to say how tough you are cuz you hate fags?...

I still maintain that I am not scary lol... I was brought up to treat people as I'd like to be treated myself... With strong morals & beliefs of right & wrong... I was never told that being gay was right or wrong, I had a great upbringing... middle class etc blah blah... I have never stolen anything... & have always gone out of my way to do things that benefit others...

have you ever had a child in hospital??... This 'homo' spent 8 house selling lightsticks to raise $$ for the kids hospital??... why did I volunteer my time?... cuz it was something I wanted to do to contribute in a postive way, for the kids... did I get paid?? no... was I satisfied afterwards?? yes (with really sore feet lol)...

Gays/fags/homo's contribute alot to society... give them a break... it may not be the way that you do things... you dont even have to like or agree with it... just let it be... its not affecting you in anyway

So, are we still discussing why gay people are scary?

I find them strange because they are different to me. Not scary, but definitely different.

As long as they leave my bottom alone it's all good.

To which we all thought it was highly amusing at the fact it was what we were discussing at the time. And to be honest I dont know what to think as the next text was "he's Indian should I be more worried" It upset me. I keep an open mind, and those of you who do know me...know what Im like.

This person also called my best mate a "homo" in front of several kbers who were hanging out at my place one afternoon and he almost shat himself when my mate came over, picked him up by the scruff of the neck and almost threw a fist at him for the comment.

Yes my mate can take a joke but the context of it wasn't as though it was in a jokey manner. He's forever going on about honda riders being gay...urgh Im over it.

So what does make gay people so scary? I just want to get a better understanding of where he's coming from and why he hates them so much.
    Wrong question....

A better question is why do some people feel the need to demean and degrade others in public over matters that are no concern of theirs?

Increasingly it seems - displays of physical or emotional violence and dominance are becoming acceptable - they are not.
