MotoGP riders aren't trying to get their knee down. A lot of the time they don't.

Often they don't while going around corners at a significant multiple of the speed that the look-at-me knee-downers would take it at.

Getting your knee down is neither big nor clever. I don't know what the men in that video in the post above are trying to prove. That's dangerous behaviour on a public road.

You say you had your boots scraping. To me this suggests that you need to get to foot on top of the peg. eg. the ball of your foot should be on the foot peg. This allows you to stick your knee out futher.
Watch a MotoGP rider to see where his feet are in a corner.
If you ride with your feet in the normal position(the arch of your foot over peg) I doubt you will ever get your knee down.
By the way, I strongly suggest only doing this on a track and allow common sense prevail while on the road. [/QUOTE]

I was just suggesting that that his foot position may be wrong for fast riding. The last comment was to only try the knee down stuff on a race track.

    Knee Down

Getting ya knees down is the wicked buzz around i reckon, Also when ya do it it doesnt actualy feel unsafe, also if ya were ta wipe out ya only gunna fall a foot if that. Im all over my bike weather on a road ride or on a track day or race. I love getting myself ready for a corner before i get to it (or a string of corners) i guess thats my riding style tho. I just can't sit straight on my bike and ride i gotta have my ass over here then over there then more to the front or back of the bike. Having said all that ........... Each To Their Own ...........

I think those that are knocking knee down antics obviously havnt done it, bike riding is a feeling so feel it yo.

I love jumping around on the bike too, I don't like sitting upright. I don't exactly ride fast though...

I remember reading this thread years ago, a couple of months ago I worked out how to knee down at a trackday/practise for bucket racing, I remember thinking "yes, that thread was so right, knee down is exactly like big tits!" then I high sided.

i knocked off 8 seconds a lap round taupo because i started hanging off. and getting knee down.
I can guarantee that you can have anybike you desire and put me on a GN125 and I will keep up because I can take corners at higher speed due to hanging my knob off the side.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

Just as bad is people who brag about scraping pegs, or any other part of the bike. It doesn't mean you are going hard, it just means you're doing it wrong

So in essence, you got everything down? That's how you know you rule.

I dont really care if some body thinks I'm cool when I ride since I ride by myself anyway, I want to do it because I think its cool.

As far as a tecnique for the road, its useless.

    .
Your opening post I read and went yep! I relate to that. But this one has me a bit confused...to me it reads as you thinking you do look cool if you get a knee down on the road?

As far as I am concerned I find it really dangerous when the bike in front of me has the rider hanging off it trying to get a knee down... I start laughing so much its really distracting...I think it looks ferkin ridiculous doing it while road riding. And for goodness sake if I can follow at the same speed while still in the saddle then how necessary was it???

I know guys who get their knees down on Her Majesty's highways, and I know guys who can ride fast and safe. Strange thing is they're not the same people. I have followed guys on sports bikes who stick their knees out and hang off the side of their bikes like kids at a playground while I am steaming along on my retro bike. I usually let them go because I really don't want to have to deal with the bike in front of me binning, and I'm never in much of a hurry (hard to be in a hurry on a Thunderbird).
