Two motorcyclists die on Waikato roads

One of two motorcyclists killed in separate Waikato crashes yesterday had no brakes.

Waikato Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said a 32-year-old woman died after her three-wheeled motorbike collided with a truck and trailer unit on State Highway 27 near Matamata. The woman had pulled out of a side road.

An investigation revealed the motorbike had no brakes, Mr Tooman said.

A 36-year-old man died after his 1200cc Suzuki motorbike hit the front of a car in the Karangahake Gorge on SH2, near Waihi, he said.

Their names have not yet been released.

The fatalities follow the death on Saturday, of a woman injured in another Waikato crash on December 2, Mr Tooman said.

Sharon Christine Hymers, 45, was a rear-seat passenger in a BMW sedan which crossed the centre-line on SH27 and collided head-on with a Subaru Legacy, 1km north of the Kaihere Rd the intersection, north-east of Paeroa.

Police are investigating the crashes.

The deaths bring the this year's road toll in Waikato to 56.

Do 3 wheel farm bikes really count as motorcycles??

1200 cc suzuki i ddnt know suzuki made a 1200 cc...unless they mean hayabusa but they are just inder 1300..

any ideas???

still though another tragic loss.

Where does it say in your above quote that it was a 'farm bike' ?

I read in the quote that it was a three-wheeled motorbike which to me is a Trike.... which is a bike.

The fact that it had no brakes.. It's not uncommon for farm bikes to have no / non functioning brakes, it would be alot less common for a trike to have no brakes. I could be wrong but its the logical assumption to me.

Gee I would hope that farm bikes had brakes, as a lot of farms have hills and they would need brakes when going downhill etc....

Maybe the bike was being taken to get the brakes fixed....

This was another tragic accident and a young woman died on that bike.

When I lived on a farm when I was younger our trike had _nearly_ non existant brakes.. Horrible things 3 wheel farm bikes, quads are so much stabler.

I farmed for 16 years and the brakes would be the first thing that buggers out on bikes. It turns into a "I will fix that when I have time" and then gets put on the 10 year plan. It is very common for farm bikes to have no brakes. Not shocked at all.
