    xr250 questions

    hey,

I've got an old `87 rfvc model xr250. Now I've just torn the spline off the drive shaft for the front sprocket. Obviously the easiest answer is to just throw a second handy gearbox at it, but I was wondering if any of the bigger xr engines fit into the 250 frames easily? a 400 perhaps? and how easy are these things to find, can't find any xr motors at least 250cc for sale on trademe at the moment, does naybody know of any?

usually from what ive seen its very uncommon to find dirt bike engines for sale. the engine is pretty much the only part that ever gets damaged on a dirt bike beyond repair, therefore theres never many for sale.

as for the bigger ones fitting, i cant help with any info on that

have you looked into replacing the required parts within the gearbox?

I'd call econo honda and see about a non RFVC engine and making it fit. I'm pretty sure that was the year honda really fucked up.

Just price the output shaft thru a dealer and then decide if you want to strip it down and replace or flick it off and get a newer bike. Really your only two options. Can you do the work yourself? If not then it's probably not worth the expense.

Well price the parts, buy them, then get rebuilding - easy. Try Econohonda for the parts.
