    WE Road Condition Update

Yep it's time to update for the WE:

Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao): Lime laid on one half, digging accross the road to lay storm drains in the second half with a smash-up house-truck sitting in the drain (last sited 20/05/05).

Mangakahia Rd Parakao Straight: Limed ready to seal all this week but they have not sealed it. Go figure (last sited 20/05/05).

Have not see these two sections since the last sighted date:

Don't forget there has been heavy rain in the BOP area so do be careful if you planning to go that way. Probably no a good idea to do the Coro loop for a while. Could KB'ers who live in that area give us a run down on the road conditions.

    Thanks

Unbelievable amount of roadworks heading down south on SH1. No point in naming them, just be aware and be carefule guys. It looks to be carrying on for a while

It was mentioned to me that if road hazards on State Highways are reported to Transit NZ they are bound to respond immediately and repair/protect the area. They have a 24 hour contact number.
    Can anyone confirm this?

For those riders coming to Central Otago for the Brass Monkey.

It was snowing as I DROVE to work this morning. The bike stayed in the shed.

Many roads in the area are closed and some are only passable with chains. All mountain passes are affected including Linds, Pig Route, Outram - Middlemarch, and Dunedin's Northern Motorway. The road out of Ranfurly is also passable with chains.

    Take care out there.

    WE to update Time:

Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao): Lime laid on 3/4's, digger still working other 1/4 and we have had rain so it's a mess (last sited 3/06/05).

Mangakahia Rd Parakao Straight: Sealed and waiting for remarking. Still a little pea-metal, but hey it's a straight. No problem if you are not being stupid, hey (last sited 3/06/05).

Mangakahia Rd between Titoki and Parakao: There was heavy stock movement today so that means there is cow-shit in all the wrong places. A little bit of rain will clean it off, but just be careful anyway.

Thanks Jantar for your report. I hear that there are a few places with snow and ice on the roads now (thought I heard that the Dessert Raod has had snow), so guys please try and check-out the local road conditions and weather reports before you take your bikes out this WE, OK. You what to be able to ride for a few years yet, hey

That time again! WE update Time:

Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao): Still widening it. They just put some tar and pea-metal on the South-end 1/2 today (Sat 11/06) (last sited 11/06/05).

Mangakahia Rd Parakao Straight: Sealed and remarked. All sweet now (last sited 10/06/05).

Mangakahia Rd just South of North of the Twin Bridges: Looking good. Could be a stray bit of pea-metal there. No worries if you keep to the "cage" tracks through the twistys (last sited 6/06/05).

Mangakahia Rd about 10Km South of Kaikohe (the twisties around Trefoils Girl Guide camp): Tarred and marked. Some pea-metal still there. Watch-out for the pot holes forming just before were they have been working (last sited 6/06/05).

    Hunua gorge road.

I noticed this a couple of weeks ago. But I keep forgetting to post. Anyway.
At the Papakura end of the Hunua Gorge road, on the first couple of corners there are some large pot holes appearing. Large enough to cause a biker some problems. Plz be careful.

    Time For An Update

OK, I've been a bit slack It's time for an update:

Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao): South End finnish. Has some pea-metal. North End uncommpleted. They have stopped working on it due to the Reg Council's regs. re:run-off and will not get back to it until Spring/Summer. The centre strip is still Tarseal, with the wide varges course metal. Lots of loose metal getting flick on to the tar. It's only 1km long max. and signed. The rest of Mangakahia Rd is as good as it gets, so as long as you look out for this section, she good for a hoon No cops hounding this road as yet (last sited 1/07/05).

    those that use 22

just a note for those that use 22, multiple road patchings and repairs on the section from the hot springs south to Glen massey, this bit of the road is not 22, but most pepole that go down 22 use this section to get to Ngarawhia.

Most of the road works have no warning signs, and are only one one side of the road at a time, they are about 12 to 20 square meters.. and are unsealed.

    Ohinewai to Tahuna Rd

For any weekend riders who are planning to use this bit of road, just a heads up about some new seal on the Tahuna rd.

About 6ks North of Hoe-O-Tainui hall (LB Knows were that is) new section of seal about 1.5 ks long, few signs out, not sure how long they will stay up.

    Coromandel

on the east side of SH25 there are heaps of slips and such blocking parts of the road. Lots of loose rock and mud from the cliffs on account of all the rain. Some areas also have new seal with no road markings but not to much loose gravel other than from the slips.
They should have most of those cleaned up in the next few days if the rain stops.

The road just south of Tairua is closed becouse of flooding. (see picture below) SH25a also closed for flooding. Lots of flood debri on the low lying flat areas aswell.

    ARTHURS PASS

Take care. Heaps and heaps of grit on the road. Especially around Porters Pass, and at the top of the Otira viaduct. Please be careful!

hey, just a heads up on the Awakino Gorge SH3 between Te Kuiti- New Plymouth. many failures in road some quite large and in the fast lines, esp around the one way tunnel. still rideable but be mindfull as they have the potential to give you a rather nasty moment.

if your coming through the gorge there is a slip about 1/2 way throught the gorge and the south bound lane is diverted over onto the shoulder (surface is loose metal. not the most bike frendly size either) and there is loose metal about 50m either side of slip, again be mindfull.

also coming into Te Kuiti down awakino hill the guys are trying to retain a very large drop out which is rapidly on the move (est fall 20mm per day). please take care as there will be trucks bringing mud and crap onto the road and aswell the guys are trying to make the transition easier by laying pavelay to ramp the sudden drop.

due to the time of year these slips in the gorge they will not be looked at for a while, not possible for another 2 or 3 months (properly).
i will try to pass on all info as i am informed at work.
yeah... sorry bro, i thought that ment miles 'n hour.
