    BROOKBY HILL & HUNUA

there's roadworks on the clevedon side of brookby hill.
Also in Hunua just past the gasso geading south there's loose seal on the exit of the esses as you head down the hill so look out, it's in the worst spot if you're 'travelling', there's a bit more further down including the start of the straight past the Camp Adair. all go after that 8-).
    safe riding people...

    SH1 Chch-Blenheim (or Blenheim-Chch)

    As at August 5 and 6 2005
Overall the road is in good condition. Bit of roadworks North of Kaikoura. Only noticed one patch of grit from the bottom of the last hill of the Hundalees heading North and only light and for a feww hundred metres but not sign posted when heading north.

Number of areas posted with "slippery when wet" and as most are the shady bits up the coast they are always wet but didn't seem at all slippery at nana speeds

    Generally nothing to cause probs.

Large Hydraulic oil spill Ramarama off ramp

Hey people just a heads up about a large oil spill , its located on the Ramarama off ramp (south bound ) starts just before compluslery stop on the off ramp, and continues right, its going to be a slippery bugger when it gets wet.

have tired to get the bloody council to chuck some sand on it, will check in a couple of days to see if its sorted.

    Maraetai

Maraetai road that winds around the coast has just had some road works and there a quite a few bits of loose gravel in the middle of the lane from the roadworkers not cleaning up after themselves

They have stopped working on it due to the Reg Council's regs. re:run-off and will not get back to it until Spring/Summer. The centre strip is still Tarseal, with the wide varges course metal. Lots of loose metal getting flick on to the tar. It's only 1km long max. and signed. The rest of Mangakahia Rd is as good as it gets, so as long as you look out for this section, she good for a hoon No cops hounding this road as yet (last sited 1/07/05).
Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao) North End: They have restarted this (and now it rains ). Course metal for 1/4-1/2 a Km (last sited 16/09/05).
Mangakahia Rd just below Parakao hill on the South side: They have started to dig the verges here to widen the road here, so look out for clumps of dirt on the road. I assume that as soon as they have sealed the other bit, they will start getting into metaling and resealing this bit (last sited 16/09/05).

Mangakahia Rd just below Parakao hill on the South side: Still digging the verges here to widen the road here, so look out for clumps of dirt on the road (Last sited 1/10/05).

They are widening it piece by piece, so as long as the weather is good they will have roadworks on Mangakahia for sometime (and at the rate they are going they won't be finished until 2010). In saying that, Mangakahia (IMHO) is better than a lot of roads up here (if you take traffic and PC's in to account)

sad but true. Mt tiger (towards the heads) road is alot of fun. My mate lives out that way and I have to say I was impressed with the surfacing there.
I looking forward to doing those roads again, the twin bridges and the manganui fish shop run wil be fun, oh and Ill have to do the old russell road route as well.
The empty roads. The warmth. Easy to take for granted how many good roads up there are up there to ride within a short range.
The rimatukas are fun but there is way to much traffic and while the back roads of martinborough are good too theres not nearly as many varying routes one can take as there are up there. It would be good if there was the same kind of riding community up there as there is in welly. Bunch of good fuckers down here
From the where I live up north its pretty much good roads the moment you get to the end of the drive way with no motorways to travel first.
that is all. homesick whinge over

You haven't seen half the roads round here yet Mr.

    didnt think I did.
I just reread the post and while i thought I had worded it special like so as not to offend any welly people clearly Im lacking the diplomatic skills required to negotiate your temperment there jim. I think I meant the roads I had travelled and there is no denying the motorway is boring, at least to me.
Sooooooooooo let me rephrase for your sensitivty.
Actually. No. Cant be bothered. Cheers

Mangakahia Rd Treefold's Twisties: Widening done. Course Metal down (see attached pic). Stopped to talk to the workers. They reconn that they will not get as far as limeing by next WE (Opo Ride WE), so there will still be course metal there on Sun (Last sited 10/10/05).

OK, time to update (won't be near the PC until Mon night, GC WE for me).

Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao) North End: Has just been tarsealing. There is heaps of pea-metal on in at the moment. Would not think it would be sweeped by the WE (Last sited 13/10/05).
Mangakahia Rd just below Parakao hill on the South side: Still digging the verges here to widen the road here, so look out for clumps of dirt on the road (Last sited 13/10/05).
Mangakahia Rd Treefold's Twisties: Have not seen this since the 10/10/05 but expect it to be the same.
