Road condition updates

Have decided that we need a "Sticky" for Road Conditions (e.g Road Works, Etc.), updated regularly by those travelling the roads regularly. Please could a Smart IT dude/dudette sticky this

as I'm IT dum

Please keep to only reporting or asking about Road Conditions on this Thread as it will help with planning rides

I drive/ride the back roads around Whangarei regularly as a Farrier so here's a start:

5/11/04
Mangakahia Rd: Still medium/course metal ether side of Parakao (ride with caution++).
Otaika Valley Rd: Raod Works finnished but unmarked pea-metal on unsigned

new tarseal on 30KPM corner (so watch-out).

SH1 North of Oakleigh Service Station (10-15 South of Whangarei). Heavy Road Works with some delay expected. This is changing fast as they are working flat-out on it. Was course and humpy metal 11:30am this morning, but Gradered and Rolled by 2pm. So watch it.

5nov2004 between birdlings flat and barries bay (you know on the way to akaroa) theres a few patches that the council has seen to put down. i hadn't noticed anything wrong with the road prior but maybe the pothole people have a qouta to fill. none of the patches seem to be in critical areas(they arent on corners).

new tarseal on 45KPM corner (so watch-out). Don't think it has been sweep yet.

Yeah that long stretch of works 10-15 before town really sucks. I hated it both times on both bikes.

Come to think of it, SH1 is boring anyway.

If anyone happens to be at the top of the south.

11/11 They have a fair bit of gravel works just on Blenheim side of Pelorus. Not nice if you are not expecting it. Damn gravel, hurts like hell!!

11/11: The very motorbike concious Ministry of transport and roadworks and annoyance have nicely gone and layed a 3km stretch of 2cm thick gravel between Blenheim and Picton just out of Koromiko.

They havent been very onto it and there is a severe lack of signage. Those taking a trip with Picton as a destination, just ride careful, I dont feel like riding past a fellow motorcyclist in a ditch.

theres also a long stretch of road works on sh1 about 5 k south of kawakawa. its on the long uphill stretch that most people pass on.

Mangakahia Rd: No change. Sealed but still has a large amount of fine metal on (must be going to put more tar on it yet)
Otaika Valley Rd: no change, still un-swept.

Anyone travelled Picton to Nelson recently, and know of any roadworks or hazards? Am riding 27th of November, 9.30am ferry from Wellington.

There is a little just before the Pelorus bridge, gravel but it is well signposeted. There is also a bit of loose gravel on the Wongamoa Hills, not too much to worry about though.. Ride safe mate

Cheers Sniper_CBR, will look out for it. Last time the ZZR250 I'm taking to Nelson was ridden through there it was dropped when the owner (not me) hit a rock at 20 km/h as he was pulling over to the side of the road. Just been repaired and am delivering to my cousin in Nelson - would hate for the same sort of thing to happen again.
