SH1 North of Oakleigh Service Station (10-15 South of Whangarei). Medium metal.

Mangakahia Rd (Parakao area): Sealed but still has a fair amount of pea-metal. Not swept yet.

We are almost worshipping you in this house, RiB. How do we drop in and see you while riding past mid Dec with the WIMA girls?

    Some sketchy info, at best...

Mornington, Wellington. If you ride down Farnham road, going towards newtown, when you reach the bottom of the hill, if you turn left, that road and all the way to the end of it, where it meets the hill over to newtown, is newly sealed. Lots of loose gravel, got the MX5 sliding on the way home tonight...

Will PM you with my Home Ph and Mobile No. , but where I live is @ Parakao it's self. On Mangakahia Rd about 10Km after you pass Mangakahia Area School/Titoki, there is a 1Km straight, followed by a drop down hill, over a little bridge, and then up again. On the top of the hill there are:
On you left a once was school (Parakao School)
On your right there is a hall (Parakao Hall), a Play Centre, and a once was store.
Between the Store and the Hall/Play Centre there is a 1Km long metal road (Hunter Rd).
Both my parents and I live down the end of this road (at the Council Maintainance Ends Here Sign). I live in the house closest to the road. If you pop up please let yourself be known (if nobody is at my house, walk over to the parent's house). We are fairly welcoming people so don't be shy. Accomidation can be provided, but it is better if you ring first (we may not be in).

    Lewis Pass

    Great idea.
Can't find the exact name of this area on a map, some I'm sorry about how vauge it is, but anyone familair with the Lewis Pass should know where it is: if youre heading north towards the Lewis Pass, you pass through Glen Wye where the road works huts are, go around the bluff, along the straights, then you go around a big sweeping right, and you pass some huts on a sideroad on your right as you are going round a sweeping left hander with a bridge towards the end (this is the southern end of St James walkway I think- I'm pretty sure it's the Boyle settlement). Then you go round a right hander, along a straight, then through a big left / right / left sweeping bend just before you get to the start of the forest. About here and for the next 2 or 3 k's there are unmarked patches of new loose seal on some of the corners. Makes for a bit of a sphincter pucker if you're in a hurry...

Mangakahia Rd (Parakao area): Sealed with some pea metal (signed 30KPH but should be more like 50-70KPH now). Will check other piece of road works on Mangakahia Rd. on Saturday as I go North.
Otaika Valley Rd: Minimal pea metal on that 40KPH corner now.

Mangakahia Rd South of Parakao: They have removed the signs now, but there is still plenty of pea-metal
Mangakahia Rd Norht of Parakao: I had not see this bit of road work for a while. Thought it was going at the same pace as the bit South of Parakao, but no. They have just done the kirbing and are in the process of sealing.

OK ... now I am sure where Parakao is .. south of Pakotai. And the crappy bit is now between Pakotai and Parakoa, and very short, even if horrible. Thats very nice information to be given. Maybe the local council has decide to get ready for the dreadful Christmas traffic up that road!

We'll drop in on Sunday afternoon (12th, I think) if at all possible.

The way the govt installed the prison is very reminiscent of the way they took over the geothermal field. ie. talk to a small number of the owners, and then pretend that they have consulted, and then assume that as the Government they have a right to steal land that the Crown promised to safeguard for the local owners, aka moi! ..... yargh ... and my esteemed ancestor sold 12,000 acres of Nukutawhiti block in 1867 .... now I wonder just where is that area .... oh dear ... I should shut up about now ...

well .. at least I still get to ride on the roads in the area.

Otaika Valley Rd is looking fairly good on that 40KPH corner now. Still, there maybe a little pee metal lurky around the center line. I'll be home that weekend, so if you want to drop me a line ph/Txt 027 4534350
