Yesterday, heading North, got to the Awakino Gordge (sp?) and thought "Playtime" but no! There are little patches of brand new chip pretty much right through

    Hamilton - Raglan

New seal west of Whatawhata just past Te Pahu turn off - reasonably clean tonight

New seal and surface metal about 2.5ks west of western foot of divvy - not signposted any more and up to about 3cm deep in places. Will have to get some eyeball shrinking drops tomorrow

Update on the 3, went through it yesterday and it was all sweet no loose gravel or anything.

    SH1 - North of Sanson

Straightening road just north of Sanson, prior to Ohakea air Base. Re-surfacing and all that, sign-posted but take care, bit of loose stuff through there when I went through last Saturday.

Maybe you aren't allowed to ASK what the roads are like on this thread but here goes: anybody able to give a run-down on the road condition throught the Lewis Pass to Westport? :spudwhat: (from a LOW cage point of view)

    Chch- Lewis-Springs- Murchison- Kohatu Pub

Assuming you are going in through Reefton, so much of this won't appy to you.
Ahem...there is a small amount of resealing about 5k's north of Culverden.
They are doing a major realignment on the corners immediately south of the turnoff to Hamner Springs. You may have to wait for a few minutes there as they have lights.
When nearing the Lewis Pass on the south side, watch for unmarked seal patching on some of the bluffs where you climb then drop, climb then drop before you reach the actual pass(sorry- can't think of any way to describe it).
On the north side they are putting up armco barriers. Other than that its sweet.

    Anybody going further-
Just south of Murchison they are doing some resealing etc.
The only one way bridge North of Murch is being widened.
The corner at the sth end of the last big straight before the Owen Pub has some seal patching on it.
The new bridge and realignment at the Owen Pub are about done- big improvement.
The sweepers in the realignment from Kawateri to Glenhope are all finished, swept clean and they are FUGGEN FANTASTIC
Watch for road works on the north side of the Hope Saddle. And this is important: there seems to be a bit of loose seal on the South Side of the Hope Saddle- it's not marked but my bike slid and wobbled a fair bit when crossing from one wheel track to the other while leant well over. Take care eh!

Anybody turning off at the Kohatu Pub to head through Tapawera to Mot, watch for unmarked new seal from the Kohatu north to the top of the bank- slippery enough to get wheelspin taking off, but not marked-genious!

One thing I forgot to mention- just north of the Hamner turnoff the road drops down off a terrace and theres a corner at the bottom. If it's raining watch this one as it has lots of shiny tar, when I was heading back to Chch the ol' FZR did a neat shimmy going around that corner. I would have ended up flying (literally) into a paddock if I'd been going much faster!

SH 6 between Nelson and Blenheim:

Lots of loose patches of gravel, too numerous to name or point out. One fun bit is that on 2 corners there is very thick gravel and one great 35km corner is totally unsealed rock. Beware of it guys, fun for a while but not when you hit this stuff

Yes of course. Good to see you got a reply. Sorry I did not get around to seeing you while I was down there.

    Mangakahia Rd Again

Thanks everybody that is posting road conditions

Well they are at it with Mangakahia Rd again. 3 main sections to watch out for now:

Mangakahia Rd just North of the Wairua Bridge (Titoki side) to before the bends leading to the Titoki Straight: Medium to Course metal at the moment as they have ripped-up the road and are widening it (last sited 08/04/05)..

Mangakahia Rd just South of and 2 Km North of the Twin Bridges: Unmarked pea-metal, watch thoughs twistys (don't go this way often, last sited 31/03/05).

Mangakahia Rd about 10Km South of Kaikohe (the twisties around Trefoils Girl Guide camp): They seem to be widening it so this could be ripped up by the WE and have Medium to Course metal on it (don't go this way often, last sited 31/03/05).

15/04/05: Well you can add Parakao Straight on Mangakahia Rd to that: Widening it. Med/Course Metal on sides with shit spread on th rest.
Mangakahia Rd just North of the Wairua Bridge (Titoki side) to before the bends leading to the Titoki Straight: Up to sealing this at the moment (last sited 14/04/05)..

They are still at it with Mangakahia Rd:

Mangakahia Rd just North of the Wairua Bridge (Titoki side) to before the bends leading to the Titoki Straight: New seal with plenty pea-metal (last sited 26/04/05).

Mangakahia Rd between Fazers Rd and Jack Rd in the twisties (between Titoki & Parakao): Road widening has Medium to Course metal on it (last sited 26/04/05).

Mangakahia Rd Parakao Straight: Has been widened but yet to tar the side strips (last sited 26/04/05).
