    Rimutakas, Monday around midday...

I rode town to Welly on friday, fairly big trip for me Met up with a friend on Monday and rode back together over the Rimatakas. He thought I was up for it and I trust his judgement.

Dear god it was hell!!! The road itself was pretty bloody awful, but would have been ok if it wasn't for the WIND!!!!! I made an absolute arse-job of the ride, it was terrible, particularly the way down...

And WORST when I had these two other bikers behind me.... My poor wee GN was getting blown all over the show, they must have been waiting for me to go down!!

So yeah, sorry guys for not being able to let you past sooner. I did actually make it to the bottom upright and had nearly caught up with you but my friend (on the VFR) stopped to check I was still breathing...

Despite the sheer terror it was kinda satisfying!

Ya get used to it after a while. The wind was quite strong on Monday.

The worst I'd hadto deal with was on the back road to Shannon from Palmy...

Well done for going over there. The hill can be a bit intimidating for the first timers who have not been riding too long. You will also get used to the wind on there. Just needs practice.

As for the two other bikes. Ride your ride and don't worry about them. You need to concentrate on what you are doing not worrying about those behind you. It is their responsibility to pass you safely and no doubt would have taken that into consideration. If I come up behind a bike on that hill, I access the riders skills and if I feel I need to give them more room, that's what I do.
Experienced riders will allow room for errors made by less experienced when passing. Less experienced riders don't always take the best lines so they tend to allow for that.

Geez, don't be too hard on ya-self, it's a tough stretch of road and good on you for doing it and dont let it put you off going over there again but you do need to have your wits about you in the extreme particularly on poor weather and busy days.

    Thanks guys
I do feel quite satisfied about having done it, even if it was badly, I still did it! The problem is now I want to try it again (on a less windy day)....

Good for u Stella, go again that's the spirit..Wife and I had the c50t loaded to the max after a rally in Welly back over the Takas with a heap of weight on the back the wind actually lifted the bike across the road it was that bad, we laughed about it in Featherston while getting gas, thought we would run out of wind but the bloody stuff blew all the way up to Hastings now that was one shit of a ride...
