NC30_chick & others that think a pack rack on a sports bike sucks......when you finally decide to get your bike out on a rainy day, or go on a decent ride to a decent rally (Cold Kiwi, Brass Monkey, Sulphur City, Glenorchy & Cold Duck), you may well discover you'll need a pack rack. If you are up to staying overnight, you'll need a tent I imagine, along with a sleeping bag and other necessities to get you by. A pack rack comes in really handy for trips like these!.
On the other hand, if you're one of these soft cock fair weather riders that don't do overnight rallys or ride in the rain, well, I suppose you don't need a pack rack I guess!.

    Hmmm.

Phoned the bike shop, told them what's what, and I wasn't happy with their reaction at all. After some negotiation, they agreed to give me a credit note for $100 to spend in their parts department.
I probably don't know all the details here, but i seriously would have told them to stick their credit up their tight arses. Refund me ya pricks.

Hate nuthin more than shop owners who roll out the red when they see a prospective buyer, and then fob them when the purchase is done - especally in cases where you were probably being fair and reasonable, and not trying to rip them in any way.

Glad my local shop is the shit

LOL... I ride my Duc everyday... rain hail or shine as I've said... still havent got a need for a rack... when i go to anything i dont exactly plan to go and get all sleepy in a tent
I've actually slept out in the rain in my RJays gear and not got wet inside
and if i did decide to take a tent, i'd strap it to my seat... It's not like i have to bring my hair-dryer!

btw. I actually lived in a tent for 3 months touring QLD... 2 weeks of it here in the wet season

Well, I guess they have to make a profit, but they're doing all right so far:
    • Profit on sale of my FahrtSturm, unless they end up selling it at trade-in price.
    • Profit on the VFR800.
    • Profit on registering the VFR for 6 months, whereas the VTR has nearly a year. (I guess they'll cancel the rego, to get the refund?)

I dunno what the mark-up is on parts etc., but I'd guess at least 100%, so my credit won't cost them much.
Wonder how much servicing, accessories and parts obtained elsewhere will cost them?
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Funny that, I dont use a pack rack. If I need to carry wet weather gear, alchol, Part or small furry animals, I use a backpack, does the same job???
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

I don't wear a backpack for three reasons.

    1. Gets in the way of the pillion, I normally ride with my wife on the back.
    2. Gives me sore shoulders
    3. When I come off, I'd hate to think about the added physics of wearing a backpack, it may provide more protection but would most probably cause more injury.

I've found over the years a tankbag/rolebag combo (using a packarck as support) handy and the keeps the weight more evenly distributed on the bike. Less likely for the packrack to be over loaded too.

Slingshot-I don't wear a backpack for three reasons.

Slingshot-1. Gets in the way of the pillion, I normally ride with my wife on the back.

They can be removed quite easily. Even have smaller rack frames that act as grab rails.

    Slingshot-2. Gives me sore shoulders

Hah? An I missing something. Since when does one wear a packrack. It is fitted to the m/c!!!

Slingshot-3. When I come off, I'd hate to think about the added physics of wearing a backpack, it may provide more protection but would most probably cause more injury.

Lots of speculation and what ifs. Geez get over it.
    I've fallen off a couple of times with one fitted. You are certainly imagining things here. {Note the self- Add back sig about binning being an art form}

I ride everyday to work, I also carry some of my tools (I'm a builder) on the bike. Nice of you to assume that I only ride on the weekends when it's sunny.

Why should it be any different taking the bike out on a rainy day without a packrack? You can't attach an umbrella to it?

Why do people put packracks on Sportsbikes? It looks fucken stupid!

    Rant over...

Spyder had a beer crate bunggied to his Ducati (can't remember which model but it was red ) at a Herbetville Rally (Yes I went to all ten) once. It was very functional indeed for transporting luggage for those weekend runs.........................

    Packracks

Have to agree with Festus those softcock sportbike riders who cant last more than a day on their sportsbikes dont need packracks they are just posers out on a day ride. sort of like Hog Club members they bitch about. Real men travel great distances all over the two Islands during inclement weather conditions. They have the stamina to last the distance, so make the necesary adjustments to their machines to enable them to last the distance. If it makes it easier and is more functional try it.See what you started now NC30 CHICK it aint a cat walk out there. Especially if you go away for more than the weekend.
