Maybe this problem is unusual, but if I ride with a pack on my back my arms go dead (unless it's light). Once I was slowing down to ride through Murchison so I sat up- both arms dropped to my sides, limp and lifeless. It was a huge effort to get just one arm up onto the bars again. That was fuggen scary- I could just imagine the bike slowing down and then falling over with me powerless to do anything about it because my bloody arms wouldn't work. Seems bloody funny now though.
Also if you happen to fall off wearing a pack with solid stuff in it, your back is not going to appreciate it.

NOW I understand why you ride the H-D.... tractor-pulling power for the "accessories"

and the only solid stuff ever in my backpack is beer cans... seem to remember years ago, someone said beer will kill me

and if i did decide to take a tent, i'd strap it to my seat... It's not like i have to bring my hair-dryer!

btw. I actually lived in a tent for 3 months touring QLD... 2 weeks of it here in the wet season

Why should it be any different taking the bike out on a rainy day without a packrack? You can't attach an umbrella to it?
How the hell does a builder (or a decent one anyway), carry their tools to the building site on a bloody motorbike!.

Festus, why get a packrack when you could have a BMW?
I don't think it matters what kind of bike you have, a pack rack comes in very handy on long winter rides down south . That's what makes me laugh , most of the people on this forum don't venture down south to the Brass, so don't have any idea how much gear you need to take. I used to pack it all on my back seat, with half a dozon bungies, but shit, the venturer pack rack and bags where an awesome investment.
I've tried the backpack, too hard on the body when your in the saddle for 8 hours solid......

and that has to do with what? this wasnt a thread about goin to the brass monkey, It was a thread about peoples opinion on packracks...
I for one, dont really give a fuck if you laugh or not.
some people ride for all sorts of reasons, use racks for all sorts of reasons.
If you wanna load up you bike and play in the snow, good for you. I aint gunna stop ya. But calling people full of shit coz you dont like their opinion or what they've done in their life, or casting aspersions about peoples jobs because it makes you feel better, when you dont know them, is just the sort of thing that 12y/o little children do.
If you wanna act like you're 12, keep going with the personal attacks on people... a real good way to make friends.
Maybe next time I'm up in Wanganui visiting relos, you can tell me some of your fun stories about your trips down south, but, unless you start acting like an adult, I dont think I'd want to share a beer with you.
Keep the rubber on the road, Festus, and a civil tongue in your head

Tell ya what, you have your little party, coz if everyone goin is gunna be anything like you, It'd be more fun stayin at home...
better watch out, some rains headed your way, you can show people how tuff ya are by riding in it!
Calm down ya big baby , you want to enter into the fray bragging you stay up all night and don't need a tent, of course I'm going to give you shit, you deserve it pal. Handle it or shut up!.
Pack rack or no pack rack, tent or no tent, you'd be a fool to stay up all night, then ride (like we do) all day, using the BM as an example, for up to 8 hours, dude you'd be falling a sleep on the bike.

PS nothing like a bit of debate.......

PPS I'd love to meet you at your local for a beer or whatever, what's the bar called, street etc, you're only down the road......

    Hoo Haaaaa

Nice to see the forum can be just like the real world. Like two dudes at a party arguing ford / holden. Handbags at ten paces. Who cares? Unless the contents of this thread are gonna get passed into (law), Who cares?

Blak - got to rallies, without ya rack, drink as much as ya want, stay up as much as you want, as long as you enjoy yaself and stay safe. You're a big boy.

Festus, take ya rack, do the same, as long as you enjoy yaself, and stay safe. You're a big boy too.

I got a rack. Typical ventura. Have it on. Sweet. Take the rack off, stick the grabrail on, sweet. Where's the argument again? Unless you wanna argue an sv ain't a sports bike ...
